Help with my Singer 222K

Hi,

I've just found my grandmother's Singer 222K when I was cleaning out a cupboard and got it out to see if it still runs. I've been having a look at some information on the net about these machines and seen that they have a freearm feature. My question is this - how do I get the flat bed part off the machine? I've looked in the instruction manual that came with the machine but it doesn't help.

I'm hoping someone can help me because I've decided to learn how to use the attachments - I learned to sew on the machine but could only ever do straight stitch. It has the zig zag attachments but I've never tried to use them.

I was thinking of selling it, but now that I've used it again, I've decided to keep it.

Thanks

Liz

That is a sweet machine.

I'm not sure, but I think I know where you can find out. Try this link:

Good idea. They are supposed to be very good machines. I only saw one in person once , and it was too pricey for me to justify the expense. For reference though they frequently go for $600- $1400 depending upon condition. The one I saw in person ( not eBay or from a featherweight specialty dealer) was around $350 ( sorry cant remember the exact price). I should have bought it to resell at a profit, but I knew if it came home with me it would never leave ( it is just such a cute little machine).... so I unfortutnely didn't get it. Try to keep yours in good shape so that if you do ever decide to sell it you can get a good price for it.

There's a large silver knob on the bed, near the right side, that you undo. Then bed should slide right off. If it hasn't bee used in a bit, it may be 'stuck.' This is what happened on mine, so I put my elbow against the 'neck' of the machine, and sort of 'pushed' on the bed, pushing it away from the machine. It came right off then. A little oil on the rods that hold the bed in will help prevent this in the future.

Its is a lovely mach>Hi,

Thank you. I thought it was something simple. I learned to sew on this when I was about 12 and made dolls clothes before graduating to my own clothes. It really is so lovely and so simple to use - I remembered straight away how to thread it, even though I hadn't used it for at least 10 years.

Thanks again

You're most welcome!

It's funny how the manual doesn't make any note >Thank you. I thought it was something simple. I learned to sew on this
