Hemming Lycra Dress! Yipes!

Hi there everyone, I'm a newbie to this lovely website here, but i've got a questions maybe you all can help me out with...

I'm making a dress out of this lovely, very thin, cotton/lycra blend fabric, and i'm not sure what to do for the bottom hem. On other knit dresses, i've done a cover hem, and on others, i've serged the edge and then tripple stitched it under, but i'm wondering if there's a better way... The main problem is that the material is soooo stretchy. What to do...

Thanks!

-Avery

Dear Avery,

Use a twin needle meant for knits, and stitch from the outside, after you've pinned up the hem RIGHT NEXT TO THE FOLD, not the raw edge. If it's really, really stretchy, set your zigzag for #1 or 1.5. It won't show as a zigzag stitch, but will give more stretch to the hem.

If you have an overlocker, you could do a rolled hem which on lycra would give a 'lettuce' finish. Not sure if this is the look you, but should look nice.
