Holiday present :)

Well, it is that time of year again... What sewing gifts did you receive for the holiday?

I received an assortment of beautiful metallic threads (100+ spools) in an ArtBin plastic briefcase box + money to purchase metallic embroidery needles & stabilizers.. I was very much surprised to receive such a thoughtful, lovely gift.

I also received a 25 colour collection of varigated polyester embroidery thread on mini-king spools & 50 new, correct plastic bobbins for my embroidery machine.

So, I am doing the happy dance today :)

I can understand why. Happy sewing. I received money from my husband and my mother to buy an embroidery machine! So now I have to decide which machine and where to get it (Houston, TX). If I get a good deal, I have money left over to buy thread, stabilizers, etc... (and a stack of fingertip towels to practice on).

Nah, not fingertip towels...who ever actually uses them???

I went to Target and bought a bunch of inexpensive Circo(?) Ts for Blair, and we have embroidered several of them. Do have

*cut-away fusible mesh* stabilizer under and *Sulky water soluble* stabilizer on top of T-shirt knits. We learned the hard way, that dense designs were murder on T-shirts.

Another really fun beginning project is denim shirts/jackets. You can be wildly creative, and the girls will be the envy of their peers.

Hope you had a terrific Christmas here in the US!

Our family does, for big get togethers. But then we were trained in formalities..........I wonder what happened to me? I seem a tad on the casual side in comparison. AK in PA

I got an Ott-Lite adjustable table lamp with magnifier, to go behind my sewing machine. The one which currently sits on the sewing desk is an inexpensive one, which proved to be worth about what I paid for it. It will not hold its angle or basic position, and I shall be delighted to throw it out in favor of the new beauty. After dh carries it upstairs for me, that is. The new one has an astonishingly heavy base which I assume will keep it stable, and once it is in position I shall not be moving it around much. Fortunately, I already have the little portable model to take to class etc.

I confess, I put out embroidered finger-tip towels for Christmas gatherings in my home, but....

NO ONE USES THEM! ;-\

What a lovely gift.. I warn you though, embroidery is very, very addicting... Just all the lovely, shiny threads alone make you want to buy more & more stash.

Finger tip towels make great outdoor place mats. I also used them when the kids were little for indoor ones, use, wash, dry, fold, no ironing. Juno

That is great; an excellent gift for a sewist. Emily

You will love the light, Olwyn Mary. I know that I like mine, which is small enough to clamp on the sewing table behind the machine. Although it doesn't have a magnifier, threading needles at night is much easier. Emily

I forgot to mention, I also got a copy of Sandra Betzina's "More Sewing Savvy". I saw it on the shelf when buying the book for dgd, dh was with me and saw me leafing through it and murmuring, and must have gone back to the fabric store to get it for me.

We have daylight tubes in the conservatory: 4 of them! Turns winter gloom to instant high summer sun! :) Great for model making and cutting out...

I'd love a daylight desktop light or two for the sewing room. Maybe some of the Christmas money will go this way...

We have used them for years as everyday napkins. But I am finding it harder to locate plain ones. Not embroidered with fancy designs.
