Actually it was "Lloyd Bochner" and the name we had not been able to come up with was "the actor in the 60s TV show "Hong Kong" ":

Well yes, I suppose so - although it wouldn't impress me.

I've never been able to see the point of po boxes anyway, why not use a legitimate address?

Not asking, you understand, just wondering!

But why NOT have it sent there?

There's a case for poste restante.

At first I didn't understand that but then I remembered that you don't have access to your mail from the inside of your house. Even so, I assumed that the boxes were a fixture and not portable.

It seems complicated to me, in my British naivety :-)

LOL!

As I said, it seems complicated!

Brits sometimes complain about Royal Mail services but I think we have a good deal.

Thanks for your input.

Err, living where I do, close to the east coast, I've come across one or two unmarried off-shore workers who seem to be of no fixed abode when they are on shore. They use PO boxes for mail.

That's fair enough. Why not have mail delivered to their place of work though? I know it's possible. I wouldn't want to have o wait for weeks to receive letters, in fact it seems a bit pointless in these days of mobile communiction systems. If the communication is something which has to be signed, for instance, then I'd expect there to be some urgency and waiting for weeks would be undesirable at least.

I don't think it works for oil and gas platforms out in the north sea.......

That's exactly the situation I WAS thinking about. A friend has worked there for many years and receives regular mail, although not every day.

My parents have a PO box (Aust), have had for years as at one point in time hey had problems with kids stealing mail out of their 'on fence', street address, mail box at home. At the time DF was organising quite a few competitions with people entering the comps sending cheques with their entries. It was just a lot safer to get a PO box.

There are places where there is no home delivery. The towns around Lake Tahoe, for instance. If you live there, you go to the post office to pick up your mail, they do not deliver.

There are so many things we take for granted. And complain when our Royal Mail now only makes one delivery per day......

Too tired. Going to take a break. My "new" eye is acting funny this morning. I'm hoping it doesn't mean that it has to be redone. It was going so well, too. *sigh*
