How hard would this be?

I usually only sew from patterns - that's the extent of my skills.

I saw a jean jacket today that I really liked - the cuffs and front sides were trimmed on the inside with fur to make it look like the jacket was lined with fur.

I can assume hers was really expensive (might have been real fur - not just rabbit either)..

What kind of problems would I encounter taking a regular jean jacket and adding some trim to it? I'd just as soon not take the jacket apart, because I am kind of lazy.

As I am lazy too, I wouldn't take the jacket apart either! I would suggest laying fur on top of the jacket and either attaching it with some kind of fastening i.e buttons, press-studs..... or to hand sew directly to jacket. The latter makes it more difficult to remove for cleaning. Many ready-to-buy jackets will have detachable fur.

Good luck.... Jane

That's kind of what I was thinking. The cuffs don't honestly worry me, but the collar......hmmm - I couldn't quite figure out how to do the collar, but detachable would just be laying on top of the collar...hmmmm...

I think maybe I should just try, then post pictures of what doesn't look right and let the regulars here tell me what's wrong.

Off to Google that thread about who has the best faux fur...

JoAnn Fabric has some really great looking stuff (honestly) and then you can use a coupon. Their better stuff is $29/yd...with the other stuff ranging about $19/yd. Anyway, I found some very nice stuff that looked just about the same online...but it was $39/yd - then you would pay shipping and couldn' use a coupon either. I think I even saw a pattern but I can't rememeber which maker, for detachable collars and cuffs under "accessories." Then you wouldn't need to "re-invent the wheel". Joy iin Michigan

Sign up for their email, and they send you coupon codes and free shipping codes for on-line orders. Tons of them. Much more than for the walk-in stores.
