Dear Ruby,

You need to put the placket in the sleeve before you sew the sleeve to the armhole, and before you put on the cuff. There should be a pattern piece in your pattern envelope for the placket.

Before I write instructions for putting in a sleeve placket, make sure that you've marked on the sleeve where it should go. Divide the width of the sleeve into thirds. The placket center goes at the third nearest to the back side of the sleeve. Once you've done this, let me know, and I'll complete the instructions. If you don't have the pattern for the placket, e-mail me and I'll send one to you.

I just bought a used copy of "The Complete Book of Sewing Short Cuts" by Claire Shaeffer. She has detailed every possible way of putting in a vent. I'm assuming yours is like a better made man's shirt, with a wider side overlapping the narrow one?

Dear Txmouse,

Yes, the normal vent seen in RTW men's shirts.

Do you still need help? I can scan some pages and send them to you...

Dear Ruby,

I've drafted a copy of my sleeve vent, and written instructions for applying it. Please e-mail me with your address, and I'll send it right away.
