How to alter a baby dress? - Thanks for help

A rather belated thanks to all who offered suggestions on how to make a pull-over baby dress a bit easier to get on and off.

I used Teri's suggestion to put a continuous lap opening in the back, and it seems to have worked quite well, though I haven't put the buttons and buttonholes in yet. (How do mothers of small children get any sewing done? I did this while DH took DD out to the park.) The buttonholer on my HV Lily was playing up, so I'll probably do them by hand.

Cheers, Liz

Liz, how about snap tape? Invisible, easy to close and open. AK in PA

With great difficulty....... DD just turned one, and I did very little sewing during that year. The odd 30 mins here, a couple of hours there while DH was looking after her, a few mornings when DD was in nursery..... She's finally started sleeping better, and I have once risked sewing at night - the serger is quite noisy and the sewing room is perhaps 10ft from DD's room. And might do so on a more regular basis

- but I've just gone back to work part time, and I'm still figuring out how to fit everything I need to do in the week! I've concluded I need an

8 or 9 day week - LOL!

Probably a good idea, but I already had the buttons. DH took DD for a long walk this morning so I got the buttonholes done by hand. It's a long time since I've done buttonholes by hand, but they came out ok. Good enough for a dress that she'll probably grow out of in a month or two, anyway :-)

Dear Liz

Louka is beautiful! And the buttons look fine. Two more would keep it from gapping, but you're right--she'll outgrow it in a very few months.

Dear Liz,

Louka is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing. Two more buttons would have kept it from gapping, but you're right--she'll outgrow it in a very few months.
