how to make a wrinkled denim hem, after shortening a pair of jeans

actually, the higher end jeans are probably *more* washable since they are more likely to be cut straight on the grain... less twisting of the legs. if you're afraid of shrinkage, wash in cold & line dry. it's cheaper than dry cleaning :)

i took my one & only good wool blazer to the dry cleaners. they shrunk it beyond being wearable.

velvet is washable if you hang dry, at least in my experience (with cotton, silk & nylon (rayon?) velvet. the nylon is most apt to go wonky)

yup. had that happen to my favorite sherpa lined suede vest... it was still dirty looking, but they made the leather stiff & smelly.

even in business suits i think it's poor construction/materials. it's more difficult to properly

*press* a business suit at home, so that part may make dry cleaning seem attractive. lee

The bespoke tailor's near here advertises that all their trousers (and skirts) are machine washable.

Don't they have laundrettes in your part of the world? And plastic bowls for washing the dishes in?

I only put *anything* in the dryer in desperation (generally in winter)

- fuel costs, and conservation, dear thing.
