how to shorten a sheer curtain

I just bought a pair of sheer curtains and need to shorten them about

5". Is there any special technique or needle or foot I should use? I want to cut the top and put in a new pocket since the bottoms are scolloped. I have a FW and a Bernina 1090. Which machine would be better to use?

Doing it from the top like that sounds fine. Either machine should cope well. Slacken the tension a bit to avoid puckers. No special foot needed, but if you have one, a rolling foot may be helpful.

Only thing I have to add to Kate's words of wisdom is to use a new, fine, sharp needle. That way you won't get any snags, or runs in the curtains. Oh! I thought of one more thing. Go easy on the heat on the iron. Usually sheers are poly. You don't want to scorch or melt them.

Good luck!
