the new Pfaff 4874? It does several variations of a TOP cover stitch.
in general, what do people think of Pfaff Sergers... finicky? bombproof?
thanks

I have the 4870. It is my first and only serger so take this with a grain of salt. I have used my friend's Kenmore and I could "feel" a big difference in the machines. I was just using interlock in her machine but I wondered if heavier fleeces would cause it to balk. Mine works on just about everything I have tried it on. I have made nice rolled hems in sheers and constructed jackets using windblock fleece. No complaints. I like being able to move through the stitches and have the visual aid on screen to help me with set up. Threading has not been a problem. In general, it has been a great machine. I know that I'm preaching to the converted here. I have found that, in some ways, the machine is only as good as the dealer and my dealer wasn't the best. I've since found a new Pfaff dealer to have it serviced and am much happier. I'll be interested to read other people's experiences with Pfaff sergers. Happy Holidays, one and all! Marilyn
Penny, if I were to buy a new serger, this is the one I've been salivating over. It has so many bells and whistles, and I think I would actually use most of them.
Sadly, this type of purchase is not in the budget at this time. But I can live vicariously through anyone in the group who does have one!

SewStorm found this in the back of the refrigerator:
too bad you can't get 0/0 for 15 months on a serger....sigh....

DS gave me the Pfaff 4872 when it firsst came out and it has been a wonderful serger doing what ever I want it to do. I had an old HobbyLock, traded up to the 776, which I kept to use for 4-thread overlocking only, leaving the 4872 for everything else. Both are great. The Elna 945 is the same as the 4872 and had I known it had the tilt needle for easier threading, I might have chosen it, but who knows? I am very happy with the Pfaff machines, 2 sergers, a 7560 for embroidery and an older 6120 w/dual feed, that is not computer-driven. Emily
I have the Elna 925 serger (6 years now) and I do like the tilt needle threading. machine has done well on all types of fabric I have put it to, although I have not used it on a very thin or wiggly fabric. Jean M.
