Jacket Fabric!?

Going barefoot is the best thing for your feet -- as long as the surface you're walking on is resilient. It's not good on cement. That's one of the things that caused me long-term problems, was when I worked as a store detective and wore "ballet slippers" with no cushioning or support, walking all day on cement and terrazzo floors. A good thing to do is to stand on a towel or thin bathmat and "scrunch" the towel with your toes. It's good to take care of your feet. Sore feet can ruin your day.

Now that's a man you'd be glad to see and spend some time with, and what he has on his feet would be the last thing on your mind.

There are some choices that are "dressier" than others -

Especially the silver ones, and the Ibiza style. I just look and drool. ;-) Then go search out lower prices elsewhere. .

Oh, to be in England now that April's there.

That's a nice one. I should read more English poetry, it's just that I have no idea where to look (suggestions welcome! ).

The Bali style look smart and less like walking sandals.

And I had the back door open to let the sun and air in as I cooked my fing... Fused the interfacing! ;)

Wheat round 2 sides of us this year, and oilseed rape in front and to the left. Can't wait for the cherries to be replanted! They have put some in down the back beside the motorway.

Hi - I usually just lurk here, but Birks bargains are something I know a lot about. The DH and I both have foot problems and wear only Birks except when snow boots or hiking boots are called for. We never pay full price for them though. Birkenstock Central

always has some options available on their bargains page. You can really get some interesting ones that are close-out colors - my dressier pair was one of those when the color turned out to be too lovely to wear on a daily basis! Also Sierra Trading Post

gets close-outs and seconds. Their selection varies greatly, even from day to day, but we've gotten some great deals on clogs to wear with pants. And if you get on STP's email deal flyer list, you get daily discounts of some sort and can watch for an additional deal you like. NAYY on both counts, just a Birks bargain hunter.

Oh dear, I hardly dare say how much they cost here: I've found the Ibiza model for something like EUR 27.00. I don't know what makes them so expensive overseas. Do they fly them in first class or are they paddled over by canoe? Really, somebody is making a lot of money with that stuff.

*sigh* Isn't it always the way? The brand is highly controlled here. Other brands have the same deal, only one contact, one importer -- I ran into it with Dansk, Nikon, and some others, years ago. It would pay to go to the source if a person were buying enough. But there are also limits on what you can bring with you when returning home.

Any good mail-order places with reasonable shipping to the UK?

I'll have a look around, but it might take a little while, OK? Gotta go now, toddlers playgroup today, toddler beginning to wake up and still loads to do... ;-))

It's gorgeous! Lighter than I would have liked, but I'm going to fuse some of the rayon-knit fusible to a swatch and send it through the washer and dryer. If it stands up well to that without any bubbling, I'll cut a piece of interfacing for each pattern piece and underline the whole jacket. If it doesn't do well, I'll add it to the stash for a blouse.... someday.

It really is stunning, dark navy background, with several shades of deep teal and green and another very dark shade (maybe burgundy?) in the pattern.

I'll have to get cracking I hoped to wear it for my BD dinner mid-May, but I also need a special outfit on May 5th.

Yay!! Glad it finally got there. I'm currently waiting on the big brown truck to bring me a box from fabric.com so I can relate. I was all excited this morning when the truck pulled down the street. Turns out he was just delivering the overnight stuff that has to be there by noon. *sigh* He said he would be back this afternoon though.......still waiting.

I hope the interfacing does what you want it to. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Let us know how it all turns out.

So what's on May 5th??

The UPS guy on my route knows me very well. ;-} He was here every-other-day when DD and I were planning the wedding.

TSWLTH's site said it would be Fed Ex shipping, and I got a FedEX tracking number, but it came via USPS!!!??? Whatever....

I just tore both ends so I would have the straight grain, serged the ends, bonded some of the interfacing to a cut-off piece (4" wide at its widest, sigh) and threw everything in the washer on cold-cold. I'll report back, after it goes through the dryer.

I was thinking that was the date for the Regional Highland Dance Competition here in Portland, but I was wrong, it's on May 2nd!!!. If DGD makes it I would love to wear that new jacket. ;-)

Follow-up: The fusible stayed well attached, no bubbles or other problem as far as I can tell from a smallish sample. The fabric washed and machine dried very nicely, nary a wrinkle. About what I expected from 100% poly, but you never know.

However now that I can feel what the fabric is really like, I think I may proceed with the jacket without the additional layer. It's really sturdier than I expected from "peachskin" and since this will be a spring/summer jacket I'd like to be able to get by without underlining. I suppose I can make it up, and then add a full lining later if I decide it's too flimsy. Hmmm....
