Jinxed

Ever have one of those days when nothing you sew turns out right? Well, today I finished the pants to the scrub suit I made DH. (The one with the V-neck I had so many problems with). Well, DH decided the top needed to carry the hospital initials. When I did the monogram, I had part of the shirt tucked under, and sewed the shirt back to the monogram. So I had fun fixing that.

Then, I sewed the pants without checking to see if the pattern fit. (I know, I know - big mistake) But I had basted it, so I was able to fit it (I thought) without too much pain. Only I didn't adjust it enough, and had to do it again. Then, DH wanted a tie, not elastic waistband. So I made a tie thing, and somehow mis-measured - it fit around him, but it couldn't be tied :>0. So I fixed that. And I put a couple of buttonholes in the front for the tie (thank heavens they turned out!), but when I sewed the casing, I sewed one side pocket to the back casing. By the time I finished the pants, my Mother in Law and I were in hysterics. Boy, am I glad today is done!

Sharon, I had one of those days earlier this week. I'm making a jumper for my niece for her birthday and using the serger to finish all the seams. Well I got going a bit too fast on the skirt seam, and got some of the skirt itself caught in the knives. Yikes! I stopped everything and shut off the lights and went upstairs, I was so disgusted with myself. Next evening I picked everything apart and made an 'emergency' drive to Jo Anne's praying that they still had the same fabric available. They did, and I bought all they had left 3-1/2 yards -- more than needed, just in case! Fortunately I did't have any problem after that, and just finished the jumper tonight. It looks great. I'm glad I 'stopped' when I goofed up, or I might have done something I'd regretted..... ;-) Since I have a bunch of fabric left over, I'm going to start on a matching tote this weekend.

I made some trousers for my son recently that were like that! I even cut a couple of tiny holes in them, and had to darn them before they were finished! AKKK!

"Kate Dicey" > I made some trousers for my son recently that were like that! I even

My MIL thought the whole thing was hysterically funny. (Mind you, at 96 everything is funny) Especially because her son is incredibly particular about his clothes. After all was done, I realized I had made the draw string wrong side out. Forget it. I'm done with that. I'm hemming them and he'll wear them or else. :>)

Let's see what else I can mess - er - sew up.

< Sharon, days like that, the Sewing Universe is tying to tell you that you should be cleaning instead. (Ack! Gag! Such dirty words come out of my mouth! My tongue should be rubbed with a soap bar!) Cea>

Gasp, wheeze, choke - Crossed fingers to ward off the evil. You should be ashamed of yourself. I need support here, not dirty suggestions!!!!!! :>~ (BG)

But now that you've found all the pitfalls, just think how fast the next set will go. Sandy

Sorry to hear about your disaster, but yup - we've all done it.

Can't think what my worst one was, but I have a knack of cutting out two lefts from the pattern - done that several times in my dyslexic way.

And, although it was a non-sewing disaster, I screamed the house down when I accidentally trod on an 18th century fan from my collection and shattered it into a dozen pieces. It's since been incorporated into a wall-hanging, so it lives again, but I painted the air blue for a few minutes...

I disagree, Cea. If the Sewing Universe is sending any message, it's that Sharon should curl up on a comfy couch with a good novel, a cold drink, and something very tasty all at hand. With the phone turned off.

Nah - I figure my luck I'll forget and just repeat history :>) But....I will do a good job of the old mistakes. Sharon

Mmmmmm, yum. I like your way of thinking. What goes well with chocolate? Sharon

You've asked the wrong person. Everything goes with chocolate as far as I'm concerned. ;-)

When I get in a book store, I'm even more dangerous than I am in a fabric store. (I did go to Joann's today, on the pretext of needing black thread. Got two pieces of polar fleece to make a reversible jacket for MIL, plus a few other items. Expensive thread.)

When I read, it's science fiction, fantasy (love Harry P.), mysteries, almost all Tom Clancey's books. Anything entertaining. I have over 100 cook books (don't cook much, just read them:>0) I also have a bookshelf of sewing and craft books. And I hate most biographies, although I do have Katherine Hepburn's, and 3 about John Wayne.

Gosh, I thought that's what you're spozed to do with cookbooks! Read them, put them on the shelf, right? Order takeout, or make a sandwich. Works for me.

I read mystery and sci fi, myself. Nothing too heavy, please and thank you. I just started Sticks & Scones by Diane Davidson, so that covers mystery and cookbook in one swell foop.

My DH agrees with this - the other four are: meat, ice-cream, potatoes and custard.

What a great idea! Me too!

Sewmaster, thinking of a Harry Potter book accompanied by homemade peanut butter cookies & cold milk. Yum!
