Just talked to Loes Hinse

I decided to try Loes Hinse's Bolero Jacket, 5106. I love the simple lines and very easy front closing. I had some fitting concerns so I emailed her. She returned my email and asked me to call her. I did and she was so helpful. She explained what she looks for in her designs and offered several suggestions on how I can overcome my problems. It was very helpful talking to her.Nothing like some personal service from the designer. As a result of the conversation I will try making the piece that forms the collar and front a little wider and use larger shoulder pads than she usually recommends. @ @ @ \)/ \)/ \)/ Juno

Well now that is really cool!! I love the lines of her stuff too. And they always go together easily. But that's just way beyond wonderful that she was willing to take the time to talk with you about the pattern and how to alter it.

I think it's cool too. She really was good to take the time I thought. DH was also impressed that she wanted me to call. Not only that she answers her own phone. I like calling people and having them answer and not having to go through a another person first. While I was talking to her she said at least 3 times that she thought that I must have a very difficult time finding patterns that fit well. I had told her my measurement. That's the whole problem for me, finding patterns that fit well and look well. That's why I want to make that jacket.I think it will look good on me. The V neck is very flattering. She specifically told me to get larger shoulder pads than she usually suggests and what to look for when I look in the mirror. After I spoke to her I called "The Sewing Place" about the shoulder pads. That's where I got the pattern. The woman there was also very helpful. I told her what I was looking for and asked her to send me 3 different typesof shoulder pad so I could see what works best for me. She's also sending the elastic recommended for Loes' basic pants pattern. I only realized yesterday that they carry so many notions and especially those recommended by Loes. Makes shopping a lot easier.

I'm the same way! I'm very picky about phone manner though. After working in college as a switchboard operator, then as a long distance operator right after I graduated school..... Yeah I'm picky about phone manners. LOL

That's a really good idea to get more than one size of shoulder pad. And the elastic does make a big difference. I've tried some of the skirt patterns with whatever elastic I had on hand. Worked OK, but... ;) The ones that I've done with the right sized elastic are more comfortable. And I really like putting elastic in with my serger, her patterns were where I first learned that. ;)

Pretty good. Everything is unpacked except for the sewing room. I left that till last on purpose. We still have to get stuff hung on the walls. Pictures, shelves, etc. But I think Mike & I are going to work on that tomorrow afternoon when he gets home.

Have run into some problems. They did not pack my machines the way I wanted them packed. My new Viking is fine. It was packed in its original box with all of its styrofoam. I had the original box and foam for my serger also. They put the serger in the box with half the foam, then stuffed fabric into the top of the box after putting the serger in there sideways. GRRRRRR Bent the snot out of the thread tree. And who knows what other damage that caused. My Singer home machine.... I've had it for years and the box is long gone. But I have a hard case that came with my new Viking. It also fits on my Singer. So I told them to put the Singer in the hard case, and pad around that in a box. Nope. They put the Singer in a box, and the hard case next to it. Yeah that will help. My embroidery machine was packed with almost no padding around it, but hey they left the dust cover on it!

*sheesh* And they wadded a cardboard cutting board into a useless pile of mess.

Emailed the movers yesterday. They are sending me a claim form. I stressed in my email to them that I had specifically told the packers how I wanted things and they didn't do it that way. I told them I would be finding a sewing machine shop here to inspect the machines and repair them if possible. Then I asked how to be reimbursed for that. I didn't ask if they would, I asked what the process was. They will fix this one way or another. ;)

Other than that, everything has gone really well!!
