Ohmygod, Kate -- that is amazing. Just breathtaking. How long did it take you do do it? I'm amazed at how fantastic the headdress is. There is a lot of 'wow' in this one!

Thank you, Irene.

I didn't time it! Loads of hours of research to get the gable hood looking right, and lots of fiddling to get a reasonably accurate gown, given that it was going to be an all-in-one thing with no underpinnings and no boning! Oh, and a zip up the back!

I'll be reimbursed for the materials, but I wasn't doing this as a proper pay job. Grandma's a friend from the village that I've known for over 20 years.

That is really neat KAte. I know your work is always amazing but I still get 'wowed' when I see you come up with something neat like this. What a lucky little gal. How kind of you to do this. Taria

Click on Kate's Pages and explore! That's excellent Kate, well done! I admire your tenacity - and am pleased that we don't do anything Tudor :-)

It was a fun project! It allowed me a perfect excuse to do some serious costume research without anyone thinking I was 'wasting my time'. :D

I usually get paid for doing this stuff. This one just repays my expenses. But I have a whole new set of costume bookmarks to play with, too!

Thanks, Mary. Tudor stuff is some of my favourite, but I prefer the earlier stuff like this to the cartwheel type farthingales...

That is absolutely incredible! So much work, yet, I'm certain you enjoyed almost every moment, except when you did the handsewing. The little lass is very lucky that Grandma has such a friend as you are. I hope you're able to post pix of her smile when she puts on the outfit the first time. Emily

Thank you. It was a lot of fun, and a projects that I will be sad to see go out the door! I just wish the fibro hadn't bitten so hard this last couple of months, as the whole things would have been a lot easier and less painful!

I will ask for pix and permission to publish. I'll see if they can email me raw jpegs I can fidget with, and if they want the face pixilated out, I can do that.

Th'only thing that ocurs to me, all that work and the lass will be growing out of it so soon.

Hmm, society's current obsessions have a lot to answer for......

It looks marvelous Kate but I imagine you've got a couple of queens turning over in their graves - a visit to Hever Castle (home of the Boleyns) produced a Catherine of Aragon dress?!?!?!?!?!?!

Not my problem. :D I made it with room to grow, so it may fit for a while...

I must admit I've published pix of my boy since he was five with no problems...

They have various different costume sets to dress up in, so... It's part of the visitor experience, and as it lead to a nice project for me, I ain't complaining. :D

fabulous as usual Kate. I admit to making less-than-authentic-costumes for children, too. No need to get worked up over a zipper or three. ;-) Sorry your health is acting up, hope you'll be better soon.

Not sure I could get THREE zippers in it... ;) But no, a zip here or there isn't going to worry me on a dressing up thing. For real re-enactment I'd go the full distance, with stitched eyelets and everything, but not for this one! :D

Just the usual fibro... GRRR! Still, I get to go and pester the rheumatologist again soon. My, won't THAT be fun!

On one of my rare visits to my tame quack, I mentioned that I had had a nodule in my thumb joint, but that it had gone away. He asked if it had hurt, and I assured him that it had, and that I was happy that it had stopped. He reached for my hand and pressed something in the web between my thumb and hand that resulted in me uttering a groan and slipping to the floor. He cheerfully asked, "Did that hurt?" I told him if he ever did that again, he'd be singing soprano.
