Kenmore Feed Dog Trouble

I have read a lot about feed dogs...but have not found anyone else with a similar problem to mine.I have a new machine (7 years old, but never used), Kenmore

385.12102, given to me by a friend.

The Problem: The feed dogs move up and down, but not front to back or back to front. Therefor, the fabric will not feed through the machine. I have looked everywhere for a button, or something, but I can't find anything. Please help! THanks :)

:I have tried changing the stitch length to 4, 3, 2, 1, and zero...nochange on either setting. I've also tried cleaning the feed dogs, changing the stitch width (because I was at wits end), and I even took off the cover to the side and bottom of the machine to see if I could see the problem, but, since I don't know what the inside is 'supposed' to look like, it didn't make a difference.

Take it to a competent repair person. Ron is one, but you may not be in his neighborhood.

Or take it back to your sewing machine dealer for assistance.

Yeah, that would be my advice too. It sounds like the machine thinks it's set to a stitch length of zero whether it actually is or not. There may be something wrong between the stitch length selector knob and the feed dogs.

I hate having to take mine to the shop too. But there comes a time when they are beyond what I can do for them. Sounds like this one might be there. Hope you can get it sorted out. And you can ask how much the repairs would be before they do the work so you know if you can afford the bill.

Ok Check to be sure it is not in Buttonhole model. Other than that it is off to the repair shop.
