kenmore machine 385 19606

-------------------------------------

I could not figure out how to reply to an existing post, so I'm starting over. I have the above machine, and I love it. I bought it last year, and I've only used it a few times. Here's my problem.

The screw is loose on the bobbin winder stopper. It behaves as though it's stripped, but it does not appear to be stripped. It is difficult to wind a bobbin in this condition.

I called Parts and they'll send me a new screw for $8 plus, but I don't think this will resolve the problem. The guy I talked to said there's a bolt that the screw goes into on the underside of the top of the machine. I do not think it is there.

My question is: How do I open the top of the machine? I know it will cost me a bundle to have someone else open it, and this is not brain surgery. I don't want to mark up my pristine machine by trying to pry it open. Is there a special tool I'd use?

Thanks, marsha

Brain surgery might be easier and more advisable. Keep in mind that the nut that the screw on the stop fastens to is floating around inside that machine with all its electronic parts. My Advise. Unplug it and get it to a qualified technician before you cause a real problem.
