Last minute sewing project for a gift

It's snowing in the Willamette Valley (Oregon, U.S.A.), we're having a White Christmas! Four inches of accumulation since Sunday, and it's snowing hard right now.

I just started cutting out a robe, using Simplicity 5877

Granny-Smith-apple-green (her new favorite color) cotton French terry for DGD. I'll insert black satin cording in the front edges, and make the belt of black cotton knit. I'm trying to decide whether to make side-seam pockets or patch pockets, I have plenty of fabric for either. I'd like to embroider her initial on the chest, but she is so particular in her fashion style ATM, I think I'll wait and get her input after she opens it.Yeah, yeah, I know, waaaay late on this one, but I will get it done.

Beverly, glad I finished up my shopping yesterday, the forecast is for sleet tonight.

Oh, I think she will reeeeeeeally like it and I'm a big fan of pockets, too. Her initials will look great, but you're right, let her decide if she wants them on her lovely robe.

You can keep that sleet and snow right there.

That is a mighty pretty pattern and I'll bet it made up pretty. Is this for your daughter? I guess I may be breaking into a private conversation but just wanted to comment. I am in Mississippi and a few days ago we had some sleet and snow (very briefly) but today it was 75 degrees. No wonder so many people are sick with colds, sinus problems, and allergies.

I was thinking of digitizing her name in Chinese characters, she wrote it out for me a couple of years ago when her class was studying Asian culture. But best to await her decision. ;-}

It's so rare that we have snow for Christmas that it's really a bit of a treat. But I hope the good old Oregon rain returns soon, traffic is a nightmare.

Hi Brenda. "DGD" = Darling GrandDaughter in alt.sewing shorthand. ;-)

This is Usenet, there are no 'private conversations' here. If we wanted private, we'd take it to e-mail.

I'm in western Oregon, I can hardly wait for the (normal) rain to return.

Oh, these clerks that don't know what merchandise the store carries, or where it's located in the store. BTW, Beverly, I ordered 5-yards of the lavender plisse you showed me; DS saw it and proceeded to order 6-yards of the darker lavender, 11-yards of

2-shades of the same fabric. A crib sheet and nightgowns for the 2 girls and their Mom? Her birthday is April, just about the right time for springtime nightgowns, with lots of lace, as you said. Thanks again for pointing it out to me. Emily

Sad but true.

How exciting, I'm so glad it worked out for you. Serendipitous, how sometimes a search for one person leads to a perfect fabric for someone else on a different newsgroup.

Dear Beverly,

I don't like taped seams either. But you can run off a long chain on your serger, and serge that into the seam to stabilize it. Use several strands if you want.

Teri, That's a great idea. The serger is always set up, the elastic is always hiding under something. Juno

I did stabilize the shoulder seams with the clear elastic this time, but I'll remember your hint for future projects, thanks.
