Latest project

I haven't seen anything like this here, so thought I'd share. My neighbor, a member of a flying/airplane/glider club asked me if I could make a couple things "like pillowcases" Sure, I said. Then he explained that they'd be covers for the glider plane's wings! Yes, they are similar to pillowcases....I even made them with french seams (so the birds won't pick at the threads), but they are each 27 feet long, and taper from 5/5 feet at the wide end to 2.5 feet at the narrow end!! It was quite a project, and he helped "feed" the fabric to me

Just out of curiosity, what kind of fabric did you use?

How cool! That sound just a little like Kate's "spiders" (or whatever the things were called, I don't see a link on Kate's site)). Unusual, challenging, and probably lots of fun.

He chose a white cotton/polyester, about the weight of a tablecloth. I really wanted him to make the choice, so that I wouldn't be responsible if it doesn't hold up. He's hoping to get a couple years use out of them. Anything heavier, and you wouldn't be able to lift it. He wasn't concerned about waterproof, in fact, we may cut some "vents" to allow the breezes to blow through them for drying purposes. The gliders stay outside all year round, and the sun is harder on the wings and paint than the winter weather! They will slide these on each wing from the wingtip, and then grossgrain ties will span the "cockpit" area and tie to each other. Now, on to the tail covers!! (I'm hoping to get a free ride after this project!!

Indeed. Like a tour of the Grand Canyon! That would be amazing!

By the time you finish the tail covers, you will have earned a free ride. Can you take your camera with you?
