Hey All,

Thought you might like to see what I've been up to. This is for my DF's wedding. They are combining Hindu and Christian traditions to blend both of their beliefs. They came up with this symbol and asked if I could do a banner for them. The banner will hang behind the altar area during the wedding. Then in their living room after the wedding. ;)

Silk dupioni for all three fabrics. My friend did a sketch of the symbol on graph paper. Then we made the full sized pattern using one square on the graph paper for one square on my cardboard cutting board. (1 square = 1") Then off to the races. I used wonderunder to hold the symbol pieces down. Then satin stitched the whole design. Figuring out the bottom edge was some tricky. But we are all happy with the end result. There is a rod pocket on the back so it can hang that way.

Now all I have left to do before the wedding is make my choli (top to wear with a sari) alter DD's jacket a wee bit more; hem DS's suit pants and sleeves. Other than that I'll be sitting on the couch eating bon bons and painting my toes. NOT!!! LOL

Now I just have to package and mail it so it will be one less thing taking up room in my suitcase on the plane. ;)

You have earned the bon-bons. That's a lovely banner. Don't forget to post the picture of you in sari and choli. ;-)

Thank you very much Joanne. I may wait on the bon bons till after the wedding. ;) I will get pictures of me in the sari, but that will wait till after the wedding too. I'd much rather have pictures of me wearing it when someone who knows what she's doing dresses me in the thing. lol It is Gorgeous stuff. (who could be upset about wrapping up in 7 yards of silk????) But when I try to put it on myself....well I sorta look like a two year old tying her own shoes. heh heh There will be folks before the wedding to help all of us with that though, so it's all good. ;)

Thank you very much, Juno. I'm really pleased with it if I do say so my own self. ;)

Forgot to tell in the original post. I put a layer of silk organza in the middle of the two layers of black dupioni. I wanted it to have a little more body but I sure didn't want to put a fusible interfacing in there. Since I knew I wanted to use a sew in, I thought why mess with anything but the good stuff. ;) Scored some silk organza a few years ago at fabric.com for ultra cheap. It's purple but since I use it only for interfacing in really good stuff, it's more than fine. I will be using that on the neckline of my choli too.

Which I'd better go get cut out!!! Sharon

That's beautiful, Sharon! I love the shaping at the bottom edge...it's a wonderful, special touch.

This deserves a new acronym: YAFPBS! (Yet Another Fabulous Project By Sharon). Pronounced Yaffp Buzz. That'll be my comment from now on. ;-)

Thank you. She's an amazing person. Been one of my very best friends for more than 20 years now. (as under 40's, that's a very long time. lol) And he's just adorable. I'd do just about anything for either one of them.

Thank you, Doreen. That was one of the trickiest parts. I don't mind saying I stuck the tip of my tongue between my teeth more than once on that part. lol They sent me pictures of archways from Indian buildings (like the Taj Mahal (sp??)) And I based the bottom edge on that. I was really glad to get those pictures too!! I wasn't at all happy with the first version of the bottom.

Have to go fit a suit on a boy now. He's waiting not so patiently LOL

Well earned, now get busy on DS's suit, the poor boy has been standing like a little statue long enough! ;-þ

Very nice, and the "om" is well done on the symbol. I don't know where you live, but around here (NYC suburbs) cholis and saris are readily available in a gazillion colors, and inexpensive - either RTW or custom fit. But I'll guess that you enjoy the challenge of making one!

Nice work, and congrats on the wedding!

I'd call that work 'Absolutely Gorgeous'. DS came in my sewing room/office to tell me something while I was looking at the photos; I told him why you made it, he just shook his head and then said, "That's a lot of work, but well worth it for good friends." Also my sentiments. Enjoy the wedding! Emily

Thank you very much! :) Mainly I'm making my choli because when she went to India and bought my sari there, she also bought the matching yardage to make my choli. She knew I could make it easily and didn't have time to wait for them to do it there. I'm just using a blouse pattern I've used many times in the past and altering it.
