light weight knit seam puckers

Help, help. B-)

I am sewing a light weight knit, a synthetic, and I am an experienced sewer. Usually I have NO trouble with my machine tension, but I am really having trouble with this and cannot figure what to do. I have a project that has to be finished by Friday or Saturday (sooner is better) and it has to be in the mail. Christmas present.

I haven't sewed knits much before, and no, I do not have a serger, but as I understand it, you can use a zigzag stitch. I have a fairly simple older machine, but it does have six or seven stitches on it.

Any ideas? Yes, so far as I know, the needle is sharp, etc.

Thanks in advance. I do enjoy reading this sig though I mostly read. Time - you know.

In the mean time, (I know this is shouting, but I'm doing it for emphasis

- hard to any other way on the internet) - MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! REALLY!!!

Are you using a needle for knits? If not, that's probably where the trouble lies, and worth swapping... Sharp needles penetrate the threads of the knit, causing all soerts of snarl ups! Knit/jersey/stretch/ball-point needles are what you need to try. Their points are rounded and slide off the threads, giving a better finish. They are all slightly different, and you may have to get a selection and experiment.

Also, if this is a fine fabric, use a smaller needle and fine thread rather than a standard size 80.

Happy sewing! Happy Christmas!

Lurking is forbidden! ;)

Thanks, Kate. I forgot about ball point needles. I know the routine.

Again, thanks, and Merry Christmas!! And have a Happy Boxing Day, too.
