lining dress

I found a sleeveless dress pattern that I made as is and decided for the next time I would like to line it instead of having bindings. I know what I need to do with the shoulders and armholes, but the slit in the back is what I am unsure about. Do I leave it free and attach by hand or do I machine stitch it so it is attached? I am afraid if I would machine stitch, I would run the risk of not being completely accurate and not having the lining hang right. I know I do not attach the hem. Does anyone have opinions or suggestions. I am washing the fabric and lining right now. The pattern is Kwik Sew 2599. I am really happy with the fit and would like to make more of the same type, but with the lining instead of the bindings. I think it would also dress it up a bit. Thanks, Sandy

My personal choice would be to hand stitch the lining to the dress opening. Don't leave it hanging as it will look sloppy.
