Yes, but they don't have anything for this area, believe it or not.

Nah, Craigslist works fine for me. They have "Free" and "Wanted" categories. Besides, my community service is helping my lower-middle-class neighborhood develop a city partnership to help improve the neighborhood, fight crime, etc.

One of my DN and her DH picked up a fantastic stove for Freecycle, exactly what they had wanted since their marriage. It's a great site, now off to check out craigslist. Emily

Yeah -- when I looked tonight, there were two or three free stoves on the free section for my area.

I do have to scoff at some of the posts. On ours, there was a post from somebody who wanted a two way radio set so she could reach her kids at the park.

We had a run on sewing machines for a while....one person posted one, then commented that she was amazed at how many people had responded, which brought out a few more machines, and a couple of "machines wanted" posts. I'll bet 10 machines found new homes before it was all over.

We have lots of people looking for laptops. Especially so the kid can do homework (?)

It is nice to see some of the needier people get things they need. We rescued 6 bikes from our neighbor's trash, and 3 of them went to a family with 3 little girls, the others went to some people that rehab them and give them to low income kids.

I'm very excited about it. I've posted some of my household stuff, and there will be more to come. I'm thinking about asking for adaptors to turn US plugs into French ones. It might be too off-beat, but I can hope! I'll wait though, and see how wanted ads are written...

Thanks for the lead!

I don't think it's all that off-beat. Many people buy them and only use them once.

Ummmm ... you'd better make sure they're the right sort: bog-standard travel adapters to change the shape of the plug are no good. You need the ones that have a transformer in to convert the voltage. However, I have been told that these are a bad idea for other than occasional use.

It depends on what you want to plug in.

My travel hairdryer, laptop, and iPod are all dual voltage, they only need the adaptor.

Transformers are much more expensive, I wouldn't hope to get one for free.

Well, that's certainly the hope! Somewhere I have a US->UK adaptor, I'd give it away if I could find it. :)

I do get a whole bunch of amusement from the "free" and "wanted" sections.
