Looking for Needles

Does anybody know where I can buy Class 24 (24x1)needles for my Singer 240W2 industrial machine?

Any website with information on cross references for various needle classes?

Thanks!

Have you looked on eBay?

I bought some needles on eBay having been told they were for a domestic machine but soon found out they were for an industrial. I'll get them out and check the number, I do remember they have a round shank, rather than one flat side as is normal on domestic machines.

Good luck! Br> Does anybody know where I can buy Class 24 (24x1)needles for my Singer 240W2

You don't say where you are, but if you are in Canada or the US, check your friendly, neighbourhood local sewing machine shop. Here in the Great White North there is at least one company that provides dealers with sewing machine parts for most domestic makes and some industrials, and they also supply industrial needles. I'd be very surprised if there's not at least one similar company in the U-S.

Are you familiar with Janome 9500/9700 machines? I'm wanting to fit a side door from a 9700 to a 9500 and wanting to know if it will fit? The

9500 side ?door doesn't open and is a PITA.....;-))

Apologies to the OP, just one question for GWH.

Thanks Br> >

I'm in Southern California. I've already visited a few places here but none carry this type of needle. According to the Singer instruction manual for this machine ( Singer 240W2 industrial chainstitch machine ) the correct needle class is supposed to be Class 24. I still have one installed in the machine but it's made by Schmetz. I'm really not sure if it's a discontinued or obsolete system. (I also noticed that it's a similar needle system that would work in a vintage Toy Singer Class 20 child machine) The Schmetz website is not very useful as far as cross referencing to other systems designation and it does not list a class 24 needle or anything closer in dimension.

*Overall length of needle is approximately 1.2655 inches (32.14 mm). *Length from top of needle eye to end of shank is approximately 1.109 inches (28.17mm) *Shank diameter is approximately 0.0785 inch (1.99mm). Shank has a flat section but it is not that critical as far as I'm concerned since a round shank with similar dimensions to other parts can also be used if aligned properly during installation.

Thanks.

I have a catalogue that shows the Singer 24X1 needles available in a carded 5-pack, for the "Mini Mender". They also show up in the industrial section under Singer and Muva. I would suspect a Singer dealer in your area would be able to order them.

I played on a 9700 in New Orleans in August, but I couldn't tell you if the door opens or not. :-)

You'd pretty well have to see the two machines side-by-side, or be intimately familiar with both, to tell if the door from a 9700 would fit and could be bolted to a 9500.
