Lubricating Singer 20U73

Can anyone tell me what kind of grease to use on the gears of a Singer

20U73? There are no dealers anywhere near me, so I was wondering if any kind of automotive or industrial lubricant might be ok. Thank you.

Are the gears metal or nylon? If they are steel/iron, you use either the Singer lubricant that comes in a tube and can be bought in sewing machine stores, or you can use a bit of Vaseline. If the gears are nylon, don't put anything on them.

I have several vintage machines with metal gears as well as geared motors, which have grease tubes (which need to be replenished from time to time). I use a synthetic grease, Triflo. This is available at bike and auto shops.=20

Here's a site that carries it, NAYY

've also used Singer lubricant, as it is designed the metal gears, andcomes in a tube; it's available at Joann Fabrics and sometimes atWalmart.

Sewing machine grease is best (try a local sewing machine repair shop), but failing that, try Vaseline!

Use Triflow in the motor grease cups and you will ruin the motor.

I use White Lithium Grease. Been doing so as long as I can remember. What was that I had for breakfast?
