What name does your wife use to post?

Has she tried the HVs to see which one suits her? As I am sure you've noticed, we are fairly unanimous in our conviction that a person has to try a machine before buying - because even the "best" machine may not suit one person's needs. Who can say which is "best" anyway, with so many excellent machines out there now. We're really fortunate with that.

You seem to be very involved. Are you retired? You two might have a great time going around to the different dealers, "test driving" the machines.

Allan always posts for her, under his name.

I hardly ever visit this newsgroup, and even I have seen him post, many times over the last few years. Sheesh.

I'm driving myself nuts. I really have no time to sew anything of substance right now, but every time I try to buy something online I put it in my checkout basket and then think, "What if it doesn't fit? How can I pay that much when it wouldn't cost me anywhere near as much to make it?" and the like, and I chicken out. I have a jumper project that has one piece laid out before I had to quit and put it up out of the cats' reach, and I haven't had time to get back to it for a few months.

But my soul is just craving to create something, and I think I'm going insane.

I did not report that lady to her ISP as you seemed to be accusing me of doing.

That was me, and I believe you quoted me out of context. I was not saying that the person we were referring to was doing that -- I was just responding to the comment that shutting someone's web site down because they spam a group. Now, I never meant to connect the two, only to speak to the general issue, and if anybody took it that way, I apologize.

Even when that is the recommended method for dealing with them?

Or do you think that people who break traffic laws should not get traffic tickets, either?

Most ISPs, web hosts, or whatever, will not can somebody on the first complaint. They will educate the person.

Nah - I usually look at the features, and just buy every one that comes up cheap in the newspaper. Then let her play for a while before cleaning, oiling & reselling the ones that don't suit her.

We'll probably do that. Our first home is the priority right now tho'.

Do mean immaturity, or backstabbing? ; )

Here's my point as short as I can make it. If the majority do not want ads, and do want a friendly group of discussion, it's counter-productive to treat others in the opposite way to how they'd like to be treated if it was them making the mistake.

Not really in the same league. People who go through traffic lights can kill someone. People who post urls... er... post urls.

Hopefully. Be nice if the first warning instead came from those who say they want "friendly" discussion.

That's ok - but spam doesn't mean "adverts". It means "unsolicited" - that is - I didn't ask to receive it.

If you subscribe to a public group, you are asking to receive everything that the public posts. Second, there's lots of (sorry about this) - dribble - in this group I didn't solicit either - so that must be spam. But I'm not complaining about past discussions about say, cats - even though this is a sewing group. So why should someone else complain about sewing related sites? I'm just dumbfounded I guess. Sewing urls are after all, more on topic than discussions about puss-puss, penguins or polar bears.

Ah well... Never mind - on with life.

But..it generally is in fact, advertising.

"Spam:

Unsolicited junk email - generally advertising for some product sent wide-scale to a mailing list or newsgroup. There are a number of ways you can find yourself on a spammer's email list, including signing up for newsletters that sell lists of their clients' email addresses, listing your email address on a webpage or newsgroup, or even by choosing an email address that spammers may be able to guess."

" Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people definespam even more generally as any unsolicited e-mail. However, if along-lost brother finds your e-mail address and sends you a message, this could hardly be called spam, even though it's unsolicited. Realspam is generally e-mail advertising for some product sent to a mailinglist or newsgroup."
