Moleskin Shirt or Jacket Style

I recently bought some very pretty embroidered moleskin (don't know why it's called that; it's not made of mole's skins!) with the intention of making it into jackets to be worn with a black skirt or pants. I bought a length of black moleskin to make a straight skirt, one length of burgundy with an embroidered pattern a couple of shades darker, and another of bright blue (almost turquoise, I guess), also with embroidery a few shades darker.

Now I'm having second thoughts about turning the blue and burgundy pieces into jackets, because I don't know what color blouse to wear under them, and all I have are plain white blouses. Not sure that's quite the look I want.

So, maybe just plain button-front shirts? I want something with long sleeves, and a bit of shaping at the waist. I don't care for the "boxy" look, I'm "boxy" enough! I'll be wearing these to work in an office, where the dress code seems to be slacks with a nice blouse or sweater.

Anybody have any suggestions for styles or patterns that would look great made from embroidered moleskin? Thanks!

Donna,

I think they would make Gorgeous jackets!!! I don't do boxy either. I'm so short that boxy stuff makes me look like I'm built like a tank. lol What about something like this:

both of those, they show them as blouses sort of. But they could beworn as jackets too. I would get too hot keeping it closed all day. I'm asubstitute teacher now. A lot of times when I teach, the rooms are eithertoo hot or freezing. So I've started layering. ;) What I wear a lot oftimes is slacks, a nice jacket and then a long sleeved t-shirt. Looks verynice and business casual. Is still comfy. So what I would tell you is make those jackets and stick a white, or cream long sleeve tee under there. Even one the same color as the moleskin would be pretty!! Remember too that the jackets will "have a lot going on" with the texture of the moleskin and the embroidery. So a simple top underneath would work really well. Ooooh---with black slacks a black top would be great too! Then the jacket would really become an accent piece.

Now, I don't like this jacket much :

My other favorite way to get fashion ideas is to surf the fashion catalogs. I like

Oh, I like this one. It doesn't have a collar either, which would be a nice smooth line around the neck. I like princess seams, too.

's nice too, but I like the first one better. This one has more "fussy" details, like darts and a collar. > Now, I don't like this jacket much :>

Thanks so much for your suggestions. You always have good ideas! I think I was just worried that I might end up making something I wasn't happy with, and I just love this fabric so much, I don't want to be disappointed. Now I'll just have to find the time to get to it. Thanks again.
