Moppinh Heated Brow!

It got up to 38.5 degrees C in the conservatory (that's 101.3 in F). Then I had to put the iron on to press the customer garments! Akkk!

Never mind... The customer (mother of bride) was delighted with her dress and jacket, which do look rather nice (and yes, there will be pix!).

I also saw my on-going bride today, and she LOVES what I did with her mum's dress - and especially that I managed to cut her top out of the train only (without using too many of the stained areas) so the dress itself is still intact! :) She'll be back for a final fitting on Monday, and with luck (and some cooler weather!) it'll all be done by next Friday! :) There are more pix of this project to go up on the web site when I get them sorted...

After all this drama, I had to go to see James in his final dramatic outing for the school as the wizard in their version of The Wizard of Oz. I swear it was TWICE as hot and humid in the hall as it was in the conservatory! How some of those kids managed in their furry outfits (the Cowardly Lion and Toto were in fur fabric get-up!) I will never know! And this was the second performance today! James came over really well as the wizard, and could even be heard when the mike failed... Takes after his mum in the voice department! ;)

I was having an idle moment, and counted up the bits of costume in the play that I have made over the years...

Aunt Em's dress: one of a pair of 'Victorian' dresses made for a play a couple of years back...

The lion's suit: I made this for James when he was in reception! It's on the costume gallery...

Toto's dog suit: started as a donkey suit about 4 years ago...

The Wicked Witch's dress: the under gown from a wizard costume made for James when he went to a themed birthday party...

James's wizard robe: part of an Aragorn outfit made for Book Week last year...

It's good to see that they are recombining and recycling the costumes!

My, how you must be enjoying that nice cool weather. It was officially 104°F in the shade here today, and there wasn't any shade! The thermometer in my car registered 108°. AND, I had an initial appointment with a maybe-gonna-be-my-new-doctor today. Horrors.

What a wonderful summer of sewing you are having, congratulations!

Good for you! And, good for *them*. More congrats to James!

Ah, a usual Sydney summer's day! I can understand exactly what you're going thro. Here we're going thro a cold snap (around 14C) and we've had enough! I sympathise with the school hall heat - for some reason my daughter's concerts always seem to be on the hottest and most humid days of the year with no breeze. Congratulations to James and his fellow performers - real troupers if they can do all that in the heat.

I had a ren-faire gig last weekend in WI, and Saturday hit 102 straight (without the heat index). It was brutal. Thanks to management putting in a couple of those mister-things, no patrons went down and only one performer - it was his wedding day too so he was a bit stressed....

Also, we've had the Gay Games running this week in Chicago (my day-job company is one of the sponsors) but organizers seem to have kept on top of the ice/water/gatorade issues so fairly few hospitalizations.

After some severe storms the past few days we finally have a brak - today's high is only 80!

Cooler but very sticky today - and James was in a judo display! It keeps threatening to thunder and rain, but nothing yet...

One of my favorite fictional characters! It's a pity that those who prefer John Jakes' "historicals" are willing to bid so much higher than we Barbarian fans are.

Ob sewing: ur, um, . . . Brak doesn't wear any.

Oh, arr. Now I'm picturing this enormous brown guy, wearing nothing but a lion skin (complete with tail), a big sword, a long blond braid, and a bewildered expression . . .

Shouldn't look too out of place then... ;)

Plus 4 shoppers thinking that it's not polite to stare, much less whip out the digital camera to snap off a few pix. Can post about it in alt.sewing and hope not to get flamed for making fun of the courture-challenged.......

It's triple digits on the thermometer at my house and all the fans are doing is blowing hot air a la convection oven. We of Viking ice and snow ancestry don't handle this heat well.......I read Kate's subject line as "Moppin heated bra!" and I thought, 'yeah, me too.' My brain is melting and I need new bifocals........*fanning*
