Do they still sell Quaker Oats in those boxes? I am re-using my oooold one, I just re-fill it from the bulk foods aisle.

Yeah, that was back when you could entertain kids with stuff which did not require a power cord... :-(

No marble dust is my 'real job' LOL

DH & I make statues in reconstituted marble, which I sell on markets with my clothes and he sells straight to shops who then retail them. Dust & glue that day as I was sticking felt on their bottoms. Today I will be rubbing down cats & Buddhas.

When I'm fed up with dust I sew and take care of strange campers. I say strange because we never get what I consider average clients on our camping. Either very friendly & nice or very odd (our speciality)Our latest odd customer came in for one night paid them 10 mins later decided he had to go as we didn't have a flat bit of ground the size of his tent with lush grass to make a mattress!!! I wasn't allowed to go and find him a place of which I know I could have found a couple, whilst I tried to point out to him that it's August, it's been 30°C+ for the last month so most of the grass is burnt off!!! Better to let that one go, I just wish the ones like that didn't come and interrupt my sewing in the first place! LOL

Link? C'mon, we want pics!

It has to be difficult sometimes, dealing with the "public". Yet another reason I only sew for folks who share my DNA.

Wow, fascinating. And beautiful. Are they cast or carved (sorry I don't know what " reconstituted marble" is)?

DS does most of the shopping for us now; I must ask to check the Quaker Oats out and if they're still sold in the round boxes, I might make the 2-YO DGD some toys to take when we visit. I know her older sister still has some I made her in 2001. Emily

Quaker oats and Quaker corn meal both come in the round containers. The Oats have a medium and a large size container. Trader Joe's coffee also come in a round container. It has a plastic top, card board body and metal bottom. Lots of noise that way. Juno

Thank you all for the kind comments.

They are first sculpted in a clay/ plasticine type product. Then we make our own moulds around our own sculptures, before casting the marble to our own secret recipe. We use marble that comes from 2 places; the white is from Carrera in Italy and the dark from The Pyrenees just a few hours down the road!! On the bronzed cats you can see the marks from the original clay piece which is a nice effect , it makes me think of the fur itself. Mostly though I have to take a piece from the first mould and make it smooth all over for a final mould to be made , that's what I am doing in the glamour shot( in my old black & white scruffy jumper!) Glad you liked them.

Claire they are incredible. How many finished pieces do you produce from each original sculpture?

Cats are nice and all, but do you also do dogs? I may have to have one of your tufted owls as well. Do you ship internationally? :-) My email works, just remove 'nospam_' and '.invalid'.
