Mostly OT: weekend

We went to our middle daughter's this weekend to watch the three girls. Mom and Dad had a chance to go to a conference in Aruba and needed us to stay from Friday until Sunday. it turned out to be a bit different than we expected. While there on Friday, I cut out a skirt for one of DGD's, went down stairs to get the sewing machine and found a major flood.Got hold of Son-in-law and he had someone come over and help DH with the water. Still not sure how much damage. Friday night got a call from DD saying that their flight was canceled because of rain and they wouldn't be home until late Sunday night. So we stayed until this morning. Good thing I always pack extra. DH spent a good part of the weekend taking 2 younger girls to soccer and I kept the home front up and running. We wanted to take the girls apple picking Saturday afternoon, guess what? picking ended the weekend before. So we bought apples, let the girls go on a hayride and went for ice cream. When we came home the girls wanted to make applets. So we did. They loved them. Sunday we made cranberry jelly candies. Also very, very good. Being me I changed the recipe I had and thought it made it better. Anyone want my recipe let me know. I'll be working on the cut out skirt tomorrow. It's quick so I shouldn't have any trouble getting it done in an hour or so. Right now I'm tired, Not used to running up and down stairs about 50 times a day and trying to keep three girls under 11 moving in 3 different directions. It was worth it though. We enjoyed being with the kids and are always glad when we can give a hand to DD and her family. Juno

Yes, I'd like a copy of the recipe.

I am trying to finish up some pants for the 11-YO and my 2 flannel house dresses.

I would really love to be close enough to see my DGC more often. Hopefully, I will see the 2 younger ones for Thanksgiving and others will visit during Christmas.

Oh, Juno, my sympathy, dealing with someone else's flood had to have been awful!

That's too bad. It would have been way more fun for the girls to have picked their own. We were lucky, the orchards here are still in the middle of harvest, so we were able to pick some apple. Mostly though, DSIL wanted 100 pounds of their favorites, "Honey Crisp", to freeze and can so he bought a couple of big boxes. I didn't find any Jonathans, I'm told they are still two weeks from harvest, but I did buy enough Jonagolds for my holiday Aplets. Happy Dance!

Yeah!!!

Yes, please!

I can relate, I love spending time with my DGC, but I don't envy those grandparents who end up raising another generation.

You have mail. The girls were very helpful and we had fun in spite of the water. Juno

Received, thanks! I'll have to buy Jell-O, but I have everything else. I do love cranberry, so this should be yummy!

I was also thinking of using a little orange zest in one batch instead of lemon/

Oh, that might make them taste very much like the fresh cranberry-orange relish we all prefer to canned cranberry sauce. I bet it would work with orange-flavored Jell-o. Thanks!

Since I have nothing better to do but play, lol, I made some of the cranberry candy with lemon jello and orange zest. That's the best one yet. Just tasted it and I love it. I also love fresh orange cranberry relish and make up a big batch every Christmas and Thanksgiving

I have lemon Jello on hand as well as other ingredients, except cranberry sauce. It's on the grocery list for DS to pick up this evening on his way home. I'll make candy tomorrow while he connects a new scanner to my laptop computer which has Photo Shop installed.

When we got Macs, I kept this one for it and embroidery,
