My bride changed her mind

In how many newsgroups would that subject line be cause for rejoicing?

The bride (my future line manager, gulp) who wanted me to make her a corset and skirt for her wedding dress has changed her mind.

How was this change effected?

I wrapped fairly tightly her in duct tape from bust to waist and pointed out that in a corset she'd be hot and unable to bend. When we unwrapped her after about half an hour and she realised how sticky she'd got, she decided against the corset.

So, she and her mum have decided that she'd look better and be more comfortable in a variation of Arwen's dress, here

. She wants onedress rather than two (Arwen is wearing a thin underdress and a jumper-styleoverdress) and she wants to change the sleeves to be much less exaggeratedand it's all well within my abilities. I'll use a princess line because shedoes need darts and princess line looks sleeker than darts. She also wants abelt that comes to a V in the front. The whole thing is to be a bitPreraphaelite Lady of Shallot looking. It will suit her perfectly. She'sbeen sent off to buy a good bra for measurements next weekend. Hurray! No boning! No rows of hooks and eyes! Tra la, happy now.

Sally, there is a Butterick (I think) pattern that would fill the bill perfectly. It has the same draped neckline (although with a long scarf down the back), long sleeves, and a flared, princess-seamed silhouette. Very pretty gown. I have the pattern someplace, so I'll look around and see if I can find it for you.

Thanks, Karen, I'd like to look at it. I plan to use Pattern Master Boutique, at least for the basic block - I haven't used it enough to be sure about making the finished pattern with it. But the more things she sees, the firmer her ideas get - and that's got to be good, hasn't it?

Sally, it's a Simplicity/Style pattern, 9162, but it's from several years ago, so the number may not be good anymore. Usually, though, the pattern books keep bridal and formalwear patterns longer than they do casual styles. And this is a good one. I haven't made it up, but it's really pretty, and will be just perfect, even if you only use it as a placeholder of sorts with PMB.

I'm looking at the envelope, and the long sleeved version even had pointed sleeves, which might also work with her "different sleeve" idea.

Hope this helps! Karen Maslowski in Cincinnati
