my first outfit

the pants that were 35" wide and ended up to short and in the trash notwithstanding I have created my first WEARABLE clothing -

This is The Monks halloween ensemble. My model was asleep, but he did wear this to school today, with some bitching ("I don't like these pants too much" he said)

The pants are thin wale corduroy with cotton cuffs with pumpkins. I serged almost the entire pants, which was scary and fun - fast but if you screw up goodbye seam allowance. I did it anyway. I'll serge more - love not having to finish and clip seams. The cuff construction is bizarre - i should have finished the pants except for the hem sewed a circle of cloth the same size, flipped them inside and then flipped up. Oh well - live and learn. Pants are easy. I'll make more.

The pants legs and cuffs look perfectly even in real life - weird it looks like that in the picture,

vest i sewed on the sewing machine and not the serger- was nervous about the construction being more complicated and I thought it would be nice to preserve the seam allowances. I'm pleased especially with the bias tape in the armholes - looks great:

I'm VERY proud of the zipper which came out very nice:

Excellent! Be sure to make a couple more things from that pattern while you have all the necessary fit adjustments, this will help sharpen your hard-won skills.

Who is "The Monk"?

I plan to use the same pattern but make improvements for the chanukah outfit! The pants need to be roomier and the cuffs need to be right. The vest is perfect as it is.

It's adorable.I'm also a beginning sewist and quickly found out that sewing pants isthe easiest project. I found a pattern I liked (actually my DD's likedit) and made 10 pairs. made length adjustment and created shorts, capris and pants, pajama bottoms etc. So far so good. I'm not thisquick with tops/blouses though. I still have a few pants waiting forthe matching tops to be made. Good job and good luck!

Yes, he's walking around looking like David Tennant, and doing a pretty good job of it. Surprised me.
