My Jacket, I hope to get done some day

After a long winter of stops and starts because DH was ill from Christmas until sometime in February and then I needed to have a bunch of medical tests done, I thought I would be able to get a start on my jacket. Then the rains came and came and came. Now we are in the process of getting the entire downstairs cleaned up again. It has been flooded out at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks. DH is down vacuuming up the water that has not gone down on it's own. When it's dry I'll air out the sewing room for a couple of days and start the pattern alterations I need. On the positive side, I had DH measure my back length again and find that it's an inch less than I had been measured for before, That's good news for me. I don't have to do a real extreme rounded back alteration. I'm trying very hard to be patient about this process but every once in awhile I get a bit irritated. I'm thankful though that DH is feeling well and every test I've had has been negative for major problems.Watch for sunshine is my motto. My other one is be thankful I don't live in Japan. The people there have real problems, it puts my irritations in perspective. Juno

My day today has consisted of getting up very late, going to the gym and riding the bike for half an hour, watching the eaglet and taking a nap. I slept about 4 hours last night. Juno

Between watching the eagles and CNN news about Japan, I have not even had time to eat...

My SIL has heard from his cousin, who is a missionary about 300-miles from the epicenter; he and the family are safe. Also DS heard from his good friend, also safe. AFAIK, our family has no other relatives in Japan or Hawaii, but we continue to pray for everyone there. Emily

It's getting dry. There are some damp spots yet but getting there. We don't anticipate much in the way of rain this week, but we don't anticipate much in the way of sun either. I have to be able to get the doors open down there for at least 1 or 2 days. The ground becomes so saturated that the water seeps up through the floor. it's a common problem in this area. Having said that doesn't make it any better. We really do sit and wait. I know I can't change the forces of nature . That doesn't mean I have to like it. Houses should never have been built in this area. Unfortunately that was an unknown when we built. I'll get done one of these days. The wait does me more time to read my books about the alterations and that's good. Juno

Thanks Beverly, I was able to get down for a few minutes, get the room warmed up and do a few alterations on the paper pattern. I made the adjustment for the rounded back and lowered the bust apex the amount I needed. The thing that makes me laugh when I have DH measure me is getting exact amounts out of him. I keep telling him "just about" is not an exact amount, please measure and tell me how much just about is. This is a man who dealt with critical measurements most of his life. Juno

LOL! When he cooks, does he use a "pinch", "jot", "smidgen", "drop", "dash", "hint", ... ??? Just for giggles, I bought a set of measuring spoons which provide those measurements:

They hang above the stove, along with my other measuring spoons and cups. Good for a laugh each time I have company. ;-)

That's what's even funnier. He doesn't like to cook because when I give him any directions on how to make something he tells me that a pinch, handful and other approximates aren't very accurate.I can prove that I can very accurately measure that way. I can look at the amount in my hand and know just how much it is. 53 years of making meals make it very easy to eyeball those kind of measures Maybe I should buy him the spoons.:)

Is he trying to spare your feelings? Connie Crawford had someone send in some measurements and a photo that immediately told Connie the measurements were

*way* off. Turns out her husband had measured her and subtracted some amounts here and there to come up with "nicer numbers". IIRC, the only measurements that were correct were desired hem circumference and outseam. He fessed up.

No, He really isn't trying to make me feel better. He likes me the way I am. I think it's kind of reversal thing. For years he was so precise about everything, in the last few years he's just gotten to be more relaxed about things and I've become the one who looks for precission, especially when sewing. He keeps saying no one but you is ever going to see this or that thing you're worrying about. I keep saying the reason for sewing is so that things look far better on than anything I can buy at the store. I just keep saying close isn't good enough to make clothes look good on the body. Especially on my body. It's far from ideal, but I want to look very good in what I wear. I might not ever achieve perfection but I'm not going to stop trying for looking might damn good. Juno
