New arrival!

*grin*

Its a Singer hand crank that I bought on Ebay. It arrived today - I bought it for my DD who is 9 to learn on. I remember learning on an old Singer handcrank and my Mum saying that it was the safest way as you have so much more control. (that machine had a shuttle bobbin - I wonder what happened to it)

Anyway, there wasn't much info in the description so I didn't know what model it was when I bid. It arrived it its carry case complete with original carboard accessory box and the manual. It turns out that its a 201 :) , just like my treadle. Its a little younger than my treadle - it was manufactured in Kilbowrie, Scotland in 1946 (treadle was Scotland, 1939). The seller was in Edinburgh so it hadn't travelled far! So my treadle has a baby brother/sister.

And how much did it cost? Well, I have got a real bargain. It was £1.35 plus £12 P&P. Yes, that decimal point is in the right place.

There was also a plain red box containing various bits which included a shuttle bobbin case and three shuttle bobbins.

WooHoo!! Congrats...and you just gave me a great thought! I was going to teach both children how to sew, and DH owns a handcrank that he got at a boot sale when he was stationed in London.....now I know what to do with it!! And they can progress through the different machines that I have...a treadle, an old Singer electric, and my current, 12yo Kenmore...hopefully I'll have a new one soon.
