new fabric strong odor problem ?

I purchse some 60/40 tutti frutti fabric from the local retailer and some other cotton prints. It did not have a strong odor but seemingly the usuall textile print odor.

Anyways i washed it all in warm water with some free and clear A&H liquid detergent (no perfume) edtra rinse and dried low heat and now it reeks of what reminds me of moth ball odor ???

I left it hanging up suspended in the sewing room to air out overnight and it is still has very strong odor.

Any tips on how to neutralize the odor ???

Return it is about the only way I know of. I don't keep anything that smells funny after I've washed it. Juno

Wash it again by hand and then put it to rinse it in a bucket of water to which you've added a cup of white vinegar. Leave it in the rinse water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it again in plain water. If the smell persists, make it into a dog bed or chuck it.

We use an odor eliminator that we buy from a janitorial supply house. I don't want to give you a brand because there are many, but go to your local janitorial supply house and ask for an odor eliminator that is not in an aerosol can, and they will know what you want. Wash the garment in the washer with 1/4 cup of odor eliminator added. We totally got rid of the smell from something that REEKED of cigarette smoke that way.

Robb, I had one other thought. Try soaking it in Borax. It's available in grocery stores. If that doesn't work I'd still think you should return it. Juno

:I've read about your fabric odor problems and I'd like to take thisopportunity to plug a new product from NanoScale Corporation in Manhattan,KS. The new product is a laundry additive containing metal oxidenanoparticles that is VERY effective at removing almost all odors. Theproduct is called OdorKlenz Laundry Additive and details can be found atthis website.

Being involved in the research and development of this product, I've seen first hand how effective it is against a broad range of odors. Even concentrated skunk smell is no match for this stuff. I hope it works for you!!!
