I've spent the last three weeks at my brother's house, helping him while he recuperates from back surgery. He inherited our parents house when they passed away in '93 - well deserved, as he pretty well put his life on hold caring for them the years before they died.
He's made some changes, but still has a lot of their "stuff" stored in the basement. And much to my surprise I found my first sewing machine tucked away in a corner, on a work bench. And it still works! Beautifully! It's a Morse, I bought it second hand, in 1968. After running into all sorts of problems with it, I replaced it in the 80's with a Singer Imperial (big, big mistake). I quit sewing for probably 20 years because of the problems and frustration with that machine.
Now I've started sewing again (got a Viking two or three years ago), and have learned sooooo much from this group. It's actually funny - I cleaned my new old machine, give it a little oil, adjusted the tension a tad, and CHANGED THE NEEDLE - who'd have guessed how important those little things can be ;>) It's a little heavy (all metal), but it sews and runs like a dream. I'm sooo glad my brother didn't throw it out. (Although he says if he'd known it was there, he'd have modified it to wind fishing line on his reels.)
It's like finding buried treasure!
