New shears-the happy ending

Today DH came back from his trip to the States with my new Gingher shears from Nancy's notions. They cut like a hot knife in butter! I just know I am going to slice my fingers up. I am thrilled, just dying to have the chance to cut something out. In the meantime, I have finished the curtains for the dining room, sewing room and am hoping to start on new curtains for the playroom tomorrow. Not much cutting there, mostly ripping. -- Kirsten H. Goodness!!

Now how did they get through customs? Or is it ok in baggage?

They are fine if they are in checked baggage. He didn't have any trouble. On the other hand, I had a pair of plastic scissors in a first-aid kit taken from me in Boston at Logan airport! Better safe than sorry I guess.

Yay!!! Have fun with your new toy!!! :) Here's hoping it's just your knees that hurt when you finish all your curtains. ;) Be careful.

Glad your husband is home safe and sound too. I'm sure you all missed him. :)

Oh come on now, Cea, I'm pretty sure that would be a hand-finishing job! ;-}

All kidding aside, I have sewn my finger about 12 years ago. I was hurrying to finish an outfit to wear the same night (raise your hand if this sounds familiar). We couldn't get the needle tip out and I had to go to the emergency room to have it removed with a huge pair of pliers. Not doing that again!

So far good on the scissors... Kirsten Sollie

Now that should tell you something about how they inspect. I went home at Christmastime and had my embroidery projects bag as part of my carry-on. I had two pairs of scissors (one I didn't even know I had) in the bag, along with needles, etc.. Who did they stop? My 7yo daughter because she had every electronic gadget she owned in her backpack! Her bag went through the special X-ray twice and we got "pulled over" so they could check her stuff more closely. My stuff got nary a glance, even on the plane. I know knitting and crochet needles/hooks are now allowed again.

But-to make this sewing related again: I am glad you got your scissors safely. Makes me want to go out and buy another pair "just because." But my padded-handle Mundials will do for another ten+ years :-)

A #8 crochet hook that I'd forgotten was in my purse wasn't, but they let me go back and check my carry-on, so I didn't have to trash it.
