New Singer ProFinish serger problems, scraping, not sewing

Hi all. I rec'd. a new Singer ProFinish serger and up until a week ago was sewing fine. Last week something happened where I broke like 5 needles. Today it sewed somewhat but now both needles are scraping underneath and co me unthreaded or the thread snaps after a stitch or two. It seems it's scr aping on the stationery knife underneath. Any advice for how to remedy thi s problem? I'm using inexpensive sz. 16 needles. Could it be the needles I'm using?

Yes, it could be.

Suggestions:

Replace the needle(s) with the type and brand suggested by the manufacturer.

Re-thread it *from scratch*, needles and loopers.

Have it serviced by a professional.

I tried replacing the needles but it still won't sew. The needles rub agai nst the lower looper part underneath.

Sounds like the timing got thrown off. Best to take it to a professional for service/repair.

I really wish I could get people to stop calling everything "Timing" While, in this case the needle to looper relationship would appear to have been altered it is not necessarily a timing issue, in fact on an overlock it is not very likely at all. That said it is best for OP to see their friendly local repair person
