Searching for something else last week, I came upon this

couldn't wait to try it. Just so happened, a piece of cotton batik for a shirt was near the top of my current stack. Here's a photo with the stand attached, before insertion of the collar:

do believe this method makes it easier to join the stand smoothly at the front edge, and will be doing it this way again. My stand pattern is very narrow, so next time I'm going to redraft it and the collar a little wider. I think just 1/4 inch extra wiggle room will help in shaping the curve, without noticeably altering the finished appearance of the shirt.
My topstitching is a little erratic...one of our dogs got snakebit this morning and is on IVs at the vet's. I'm a little shaky, waiting to hear that he's going to make it, and wanted to keep busy, but prolly should have sewn on a less conspicuous area.
