Oh, this is a very small collection! I know people with lots of Featherweights, and others with (truly!) hundreds of treadles! Most in working order...

All I ask of my machines it that they are in good working order and robust enough for kids to use. Brain is whirring... I'm off to take the hand wheel off the Cub 8 and see what I can get to move on that.

If he wants it to do hems with, he will need a blind-hem stitch.

Not for jeans and other casual pants.... A regular straight stitcher will do there.

Well, he didn't say what he needed to hem, so . . .

Lucky you. Out here in rural Aust I have no chance of ever getting even one treadle. They occasionally pop up in estate sales but usually so far away I can't get there. I may have to resort to prowling E-Bay again, but my last experience with that was not good. Hope your Cub 8 is now healthy - -

If you prefer a motor driven machine, why not look for one of the same vintage. They don't make them like that anymore. I have a collection of vintage sewing machines, most of when are 50 years old. My favorites are my Singer 301s, 201s and Singer 401s. The 401s in particular, with their built in stitches and direct-drive motor (no belt), are real work horses.

You can see some of my machines here:

were all purchased locally at garage sales, thrift stores, estate sales, auctions and through classified ads. A goodcleaning/lubbing/oiling is all most needed to run like new.

The treadle machine stuff is cool Mark - I'm just getting started using mine.

(Are you still using Windows 2000? )

That's a shame. I see them come up at auctions here and not even get a single bid. I imagine shipping to Australia would be cost prohinitive though.

WOWWWW!!! yes indeedee!! Pity though. I weep when I think of the beautiful treadle my mother consigned to the tip years ago without telling me

Nope - needs a spare part! :( The stitch selector is broken.

I may also have to resort to ebay for a second Lotus (I want one with more stitches), but they too are rather scarce...

Kate, I am curious about the Elna Lotus, I keep seeing you rave about it. Is it the same as:

are a couple others listed on eBay right now, both in the UK, therefore 220V, but this one is in the US. Beverly (who really doesn't NEED another machine, but....)

> There are a couple others listed on eBay right now, both in the UK, > therefore 220V, but this one is in the US. Actually, we are on 240V... Most of Europe is 220V. Things work pretty much the same on either.

Yup, that poor thing is one! It's pretty beaten up... The front and back parts of the case and the top are missing... I see the seller does say that, but to have them missing speaks of one very careLESS owner! I'm not at all surprised that it got no bids.

Oops, they were probably listed as 240V, I spaced it.

Thanks, I wasn't about to bid on that one, but I thought I'd start a "saved search" on eBay just in case a nice one comes up.

Beverly (who's adding a 1 1/2" bias satin trim to the hem of DD's wedding gown because it suffered the indignity of being dragged around at the wedding last July and looks pretty ragged.)
