No response

The best response to people like Sniper is NO RESPONSE. And I mean none! The only reason they post is for the response. They will get bored and just leave on their own. Trust me. They will.

who? the best defence against being provoked into a response seems to be killing crossposts ;) i have no idea who or what you are talking about. lee

I am talking about people like Sniper and RedWolf who have nothing to add to this newsgroup except things that need to be censored. Lee, you probably have these people blocked. Good for you! I don't know how to do this yet since I am new to these newsgroups.

You are using Outlook express as a news reader. It is simple. Highlight the message and click on Message in the tool bar click on Block sender, all their posts will disappear.

You beat me to it. I don't normally bother with blocking, I have litle or no difficulty skipping straight over the troll posts, but I am blocking them in this group, it's worked wonders for the signal to noise ratio....

actually, i know i don't have RedWolf killfiled, so most of what you see must be crossposted to more than 2 groups. i do have crossposting filtered. i think you can killfile crossposts in OE, but since i don't use it & don't *have* to keep up with how it works anymore, i can't tell you how to do it. anyone? does OE allow for filtering crossposted messages? lee

I can't see how it would be done and would not anyway as often real sewing questions get cross posted.

not to more than 2 or 3 groups. there aren't more than that where a sewing question would be legitimate. i used to set my filter for 5 or more, now it's at 3 or more. when i worked at an ISP if we got complaints about a customer spamming & it was to 5 or more groups, they got one warning, then lost access. it's a pity that's gone by the wayside. lee

!delete XPost %>1 is the regular expression that deletes crossposts in Dialog (my newsreader)

I'll take my chances at missing the rare legitimate crosspost....
