No selvedge?

I've finally got round to working through my old stash of material and have found a piece of stretch knitted velvet/velour which I want to use up.

Problem is that it doesn't have a straight edge anywhere! I must have been given it by someone who just nibbled at all the edges for a craft project.

I was wondering what would be the easiest way to get a straight edge that I can use as a guide as there is no selvedge to use.

Cheers,

Sarah

Knit velour if made in a tube, so even when you buy it flat it often doesn't have what looks like straight selvedes! Take a close look and see if you can find some little pin holes along one edge... They are formed by the finishing techniques...

If you can't, worry not! Look on the flat side and fold the fabric down the middle along the lengthwise stocking stitches... They can be hard to see, but do your best. Once you have it lying flat with no wrinkles, measure your grain lines from the fold.

Thanks Kate. You're a star. I managed to find a row of pin holes. :o)
