NOT OT-what is everyone making for holiday gifts?

hi everyone---

*Note*-i will try my darndest NOT to write anything of an exceptionally personal or gory nature here ....

what is everyone making as holiday gifts? i would love some ideas and incentives---as a working mom, i dont have the hours and hours to spend creating, but i do like to make some gifts....some of my ideas this year are-embroidered sweatshirts (i have a ellure now), with the banding cut off and trimmed in flannel bias binding, embroidered and appliqued dishtowels, a neat idea for my gardening sister---i bought a five gallon bucket, and am making her a cushioned seat/lid for it that is embroidered, and filling up the inside with a gardening book (on sale at borders) new gardening tools, gloves, ect......

what else do people have going on?

Heavy cotton duck tabards for some of my co-workers, with our corporate logo. The flimsy little things they normally wear can't compete with laser printer toner :-)

I'm also embroidering a fantasy-themed denim jacket for my DD. Fairies, unicorns and butterflies all over. My former roommate back in Georgia is going to get some new work shirts (with redesigned logo).

I'll write something personal and gory -- my brother-in-law was trying to convince me that even though I hate ketchup because I can't stand the sweet tomato taste that is part of what ketchup is and to me it looks like blood, I should try this other brand of ketchup because it doesn't

*taste* like regular ketchup. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Melinda Meahan - take out TRAS

A neighbor/friend of mine is picking up my son from school on days I can't get off work early enough to get him. She won't take anything for helping out, usually on short notice. So I got her to pick out a pattern for herself and for her small daughter and plan to make coordinated mother/daughter outfits. Depending upon the fabric we pick, I may use it for ties for her spouse and two sons. She hasn't had a chance to coordinate in the past or the choices in the stores never help out. She is excited about this and I hope they really turn out good. She picked simple patterns. Fabric shopping trip in 2 weeks. Can't wait.

I also have a wonderful neighbor who watches my kids anytime I can't either pawn them off on friends or take them with me. My husband travels alot and we have no family here. I just finished a chinese style dress for her in dark blue/black satin jacquard with stretch. It has black piping for contrast and I am really pleased with it. I have been sewing for her daughter for about 5 years and when she outgrows the clothes, they are passed on to my 4 girls! Good neighbors are worth their weight in gold.

But.....if you have a friend who does this - willingly takes care of your child with little or no notice, and refuses to take any money or anything, how can you go about getting the size information you need?? I would love to make something special for my dear friend TJ, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Actually, I would like to make her entire family pajamas or something...there are 6 children living with her and her husband, her stepson lives with his mother in another state.

Help!!

If you're talking sleepwear, how about unisex nightshirts? They are more forgiving of not getting the size exactly right.

Just ask her for the kids' measurements! I'm sure TJ would be delighted to think there was a little something on the way for all those kids.

But don't go planning TOO MUCH STUFF to do between now and Christmas, y'hear! ;)

Her daughter is often at our house so I just measured her!!

Oooh....sheesh, I hadn't even thought of that. For the littler guys, I suppose I could get larger t-shirts or something as well....if I can't get them all made. I would like to make one for Zack (the stepson that lives out-of-state), but he might find it odd....maybe I'll do it anyway.

Larisa, thank>

Yes'm, I promise. I have decided that I don't want to go overboard with sewing this year...pajama pants for DH, start on Mom and Dad's floral flamingo quilt (center blocks already cut out), a pair or 2 of pants for DS since he is like a weed, and pajamas for TJ and family.....the easiest things are the pajama pants and DS's pants.........probably won't start them until the end of the month....but then again, Mother is coming up, so maybe I can get her started on some of the projects (she was my first sewing teacher).....like DSs pants!!!

LUcky you!! Only TJs oldest is here for any time...she is DS's favorite baby sitter . However, she is so dang skinny....she's 15 and is so thin and petite, that from the back, she looks like she might be 9 or

10 . Ah well, I'll figure out something L
