The two that really stand out in my mind are Angelina Jolie and Emma Stone. Angelina was just trying too hard sticking that lily white leg out, almost like she was trying to trip someone. And that big red floppy bow at Emma's neck reminded me instantly of a Pepe LePew cartoon. There was a black and white cat in one of the cartoons that has this enormous floppy white bow tied around it's neck and she somehow lost her bow but got black paint all over herself and Pepe was instantly smitten. Emma's bow gave me flashbacks and all I could see of of the tattooed lady was her leg always at an odd angle.

I pretty much liked everyone else's dresses. I'm sure there's one or two others that didn't strike my fancy as well.

DGD had a concert last might, so I didn't get to watch much of the red carpet stuff live, but it's fun seeing the pics.

Here is another view:

Interesting back, and I like the juxtaposition of black-cream-gold, but the front just doesn't make it for me. The skirt is so tight it has horizontal wrinkles across the back, and is that a white zipper peeking out of the left side seam??? :-(

For the plus-sized woman, I ***love*** this look:

??? "Ok, she's large, so lets have lots of frothy gathers, pouffy sleeves, cut her in half with a wide band of glitter, and drag a train out back. That should work."

Yes, the back was much prettier than the front, but the front was just blah. Giuliana Rencic's dress was awfully pretty, front and back, but her hair was styled too severely I thought.

Yes, that second one has a distinct air of sack-tied-in-the-middle.

I loved the dress and liked her hair from the back.

Looks to be from plastic leaf bags, fits like, ummm.. well it really doesn't fit does it? And it NEEDED jewelry.

This dress was panned on a few sites. I happen to think it's not bad, and I LOVE the color:

the hair.... not so much. And what's with those earrings?

Some sites described Meryl Streep's gown as "replicating" the Oscar, but I think this one is closer:

That was fun. Thank you, Beverly. Only saw one gown I'd love to wear; Bingbing Li #60. Wondered if Jennifer Lopez's gown was made of pleated cupcake paper. Polly

I wasn't too impressed with any. There were some that were pretty. (Jane Seymour was Lovely! Christopher Plummer's wife was lovely as well.) There were a lot that just.......well, they were costumes. And not good ones. Like the cheap Halloween store costumes.

This one...

Honestly, was there no one in that child's life who could have said, "sweetheart, that skirt is a mess. That bodice doesn't flatter you at all. And really? That much hair?? Did something scare you?"

And really??

"Hey, I've got a shirt dress in my closet. Don't you have a Bedazzler?? Could I borrow it??" ick Overall, I think the designers forgot about scale. George Clooney's date....her dress was lovely. Except for that THING on her hip!!! What was that? I think it was supposed to be a rose. But it was so huge!! It was like they put the entire bush rather than one bloom. What ever happened to "less is more?"

Hmmphf! I'm late, as usual, but I just have to offer my 2 c. OK, all in all, I find that there are few real fashion victims this time. My absolute favourites are Gwyneth Paltrow and her 40s style dress (isn't that something you could have seen Lauren Bacall or Katherine Hepburn in ?), and Penelope Cruz; she chose a colour that went so well with her complexion, hair, and eyes. Moreover, she avoided the trap of most strapless dresses: that awkward little zone between neckline, arm, and bust. I'm sure you know what I mean: neckline ends, and there is, with only few lucky exemptions, a tiny little 'second boob' on every side. Her dress accentuated her immaculate shoulders and décolleté without making her look trashy, since she does have a rather large bust. However, I think that both of them might have done even better with a bit of bling around the neck (just something simple). Paltrow perhaps something that resembles her bracelet (and leave the bracelet at home!), Cruz something more romantic, but not over the top, to match the floatiness of her gown.

Mind you, now that I think of it: Natalie Portman in polka dots? Julia Roberts in the no-waist-at-all dress? Emma Stone's dress isn't as bad as one might think, amb buat's bong bi Pepe le Pew?
