ok sewing goddesses - contrast cuff - how?

ok Sewing Goddesses, And Gods. Do we have any men here?

I am planning to sew Monk a pair of halloween pants. I want them to be elastic waist simple pants except with a contrast halloween cuff. I found lots of patterns with the pull on elastic waist easy pants but not the contrast cuffs.

But it seems a simple modification to make the pants longer and serge on an extra length of fabric to get turned out for the cuff, right?

Maybe not. It sounds intimidating.

Off the top of my head, sounds like a good idea, and the best way to go, IMHO. It is not like the pants are going into regular wardrobe service.

If these might conceivably be something he might enjoy wearing throughout the winter months I might go up a size and line the entire pant with the halloween-y stuff (or better yet, plain orange 100 weight polartec) and make the legs long enough to turn up.

Any full lining is going to make for a much warmer garment. I've made several denim jackets for my daughter but her favorite is the one with a cotton calico lining. She says it's way warmer than the others, especially on windy days.

It IS alaska after all. I could use halloween flannel. I envision me enjoying making pants to match my shirts and making lots of little winter contrast cuff pants that match the knit sleeves. hm. I'd probably never put him in them after halloween - the kid literally owns FIFTY pairs of pants in size 2. But we have a hand me down chain going on. So they'd be in the family.

heh. maybe not in your house ;) in my house we have to stock up on Halloween t-shirts (really poor choice for boys this year too) & fabric for button shirts & jeans patching in the fall, to last us until next fall... we *all* wear Halloween prints all year :) and i just sew strips around the bottom hems of Boo's jeans when he gets too tall ( boys size 7 height, size 4 waist... and i bought the 7s a month ago and had to turn up the bottoms. now i don't. i can see adding length by next month) lee

In that case, I'd make him regular pants, then make a separate Halloween cuff and pin or baste it over the bottom of the leg, then take it off and save it until time to sew on a strip.
