Old Singers

I was mooching around the local sewing machine shop the other day, as one does, when I saw some old Singers. These are the ones that have cams for the fancy stitches.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Singer 358 or the 6548?

Which is/are the semi-industrial old Singers? I'd love one to sew straight stitch veryveryfast but I don't have room for one in a table, like the real industrials.

The lady in the shop was complaining about the owner. It seems he just keeps on accepting these old machines in part exchange and he won't let her tidy them up or get rid of them. Tut, tut. I sympathised, of course, but she didn't take my bait of letting me help tidy up. :-) In fact, she saw right through me: "You'd like to work here, wouldn't you?"

BTW, there's still an old Featherweight in the sewing machine shop in Leeds market if anyone's interested. I think he wants about £150. It's clean and serviced.
