[OT] A few random pictures

I had to place an order with Kodak.com or they were going to shut down my online albums. I uploaded a few of the pictures I took on our trip to the desert SW last April so I could order prints to keep my storage alive.

didn't do any editing so you'll have to turn your head sideways on a few of them. Beverly

Just now had a chance to looksee. ;) Gorgeous stuff. Can't believe you actually got the hummingbirds!! I've tried and tried to get pictures of ours. I have two feeders on the deck and we have a CROWD of them around here all spring and summer. They are so fast as soon as I think I have a shot, all I get is a blur. Good going. :)

Very good pix of flowering cacti. Hummers are cute, too. Catching that lizard is as impressive as catching a hummer. Your camera must be very good. Fast shutter speed.

I bought this one before the trip to the east coast in '07:

was impressed by several reviews, and wanted the 10X optical zoom and 6megapixels. I like it a lot, but I had no idea it would actually stop a hummer mid-air. I also have another lizard we saw at Hovenweep somewhere in the pics. Time to start sorting.

Thanks!

I was shocked when I looked at the pictures of hummingbirds. We stayed in a B&B in Springdale Utah, and they had several feeders going. Early in the morning of our last day, I was out on the porch and saw lots of activity at the feeders, so I just shot off about 100 pics. My camera is the Nikon Coolpix S-10, I had no hope at all that it would actually catch the wings in mid-air. I selected those pictures quickly using the thumbnails I'll have to take a look at the full images to see what else I have. The hummers were all black-chinned I think, although those two pics are of females so hard to tell.

The pictures are beautiful. That camera is a keeper. There is something about pictures in nature that make you glad to be alive and enjoy the experience again. Juno

Thanks, Juno. I really like the S-10, it's my third digital camera. My first was a Nikon D3900, I gave that one to my DGS when I upgraded.

I bought a Nikon D70 Digital SLR:

to this one. I thought it would be great to be able to use all the expensive lenses DH bought for the Nikon f5 he bought just before he died. I really liked the picture quality and several features of the D70, it had a very fast shutter, but it was just too much camera *for me*. Too complicated, and a bit too heavy. I gave it and all the lenses to older DH, she uses it all the time.

DS swears by Nikon camera's. He has at least 3 maybe 4. Big ones, little ones and a couple in-be-tween. He's does free lance photography as his second job. His first is computer stuff that I don't understand. He takes great shots. I can't share any of them though because I won't do it without his permission. He 7 yo daughter is following in daddy's footsteps. He takes her with him frequently and gets stares from adults who watch this little girl handle his big *pro* cameras. She has a great eye for composition. Juno

My DH Nikons exclusivly. He was a professional photographer for a while. He acquired the first Nikon when friends traveled to Japan in 1961-2 and we house-sat their home for them. They asked what they could bring us in return and Don asked for a Nikon. Later he collected another 20 or so. In addition to I-don't-know-how-many-lenses.

The last one was the Nikon f5:

then proceeded to buy five AF Nikkor lenses for it. I sold this one:

to a another professional photographer I know because I was pretty darned sure I would never use it, even for the D-70.Sadly, DH only had the f5 for about a year before he died, but he LOVED that camera. All the camera bodies and lenses just sit here, no one want film cameras anymore. :-(

Maybe they'll be "vintage collectables" some day....
