OT: all's fine and water tight

Thought I'd better chime in. There was some flash flooding here last night. Not anything severe, but I was afraid y'all might see something on weather channel and be worried. We got over 5" of rain last night. Started about 9 and went till after 3. (there was lightning too so the big brave dog and I were awake. *sigh*) There were some streets flooded here in town. (I'm at the top of a hill, we're all good.) A couple of guys had to be rescued off the top of their SUV around midnight, just around the corner from me. It's a street that ALWAYS has running water when we get a heavy rain. There's a creek on both sides of the street, it overflows. They should have known better, they both live just around the corner from there, but...... At least they weren't hurt.

Worst damage here seems to be my sunflowers. They are all laid over this morning. :( I'm hopeful that maybe once they dry out a little, they might spring back up. Did have to take an alternate route to get the boy to football practice this morning. One street (again where the road is low and there is a creek) was still flooded. All the others had gone down, you could see deep puddles at the edge of the road, but that was all.

Have you talked to Charlie's vet about a tranquilizer?

Maybe you could keep some on hand so the poor big guy doesn't suffer.

I'm happy to learn you and yours are all safe. The sunflowers will probably recover.

Glad you are OK. Poor Charlie. It must be a very debilitating experience for him. When I was a child we had a dog who hid in the corner of a closet when there was a storm. Sometimes it would take mom 2 days to coax her out. No one else in the family could get near her. I just feel so bad for him. He's terrorized and can't do a thing about it. I agree with Beverly about speaking to your vet about medication for him. He needs to be able to feel less frightened and you need your sleep. Juno

He is pitiful, and I always feel horrible for him. What we do is benadryl. (in "special cheese" cream cheese lol) That makes him sleepy and he is less frightened. He won't cower and shake, but he will still pace a little bit. If the storm doesn't last too long, he will often sleep through the whole thing. The vet said as long as that will take the edge off for him, that's the best thing to do. She said our next step would be to look at anti-anxiety drugs for him. She said since this is less expensive, and readily at hand, if it works, it's the best first option. (also works well in the early spring when he has allergy flare ups!)

Thankfully, once the "bad noise from the sky" stops, he's fine. No lingering reactions. That poor baby you grew up with, Juno. That's so sad!!

Mom gets to sleep????? lol Huh..... If it's not him, Her Royal Majesty will often wake me in the middle of the night just for giggles. MEOW at the top of her lungs, from 3" away from my nose. She's hard of hearing now, so she talks really loud.

It's a zoo, but I love them.
