OT back to sewing

I returned home from my trip to FL over a week ago and have posted a few lines to different posts since getting back home, but haven't had time to write about the trip. My Dear Sis, whom we saw at the hospital in MS. She is now home and doing well. She was discharged a week early, and I had to tease her, that it was because of our visit.

One DD taught me lots about digital photography, as in re-doing photos, getting rid of "red-eye", and so many other things. She took 2 classes in the spring semester at the local community college. Now I intend to take one of the photos I made of my siblings at the get-together in February, make it "look good" and print it onto fabric for throw pillows for each of us. There is nothing like combining my two hobbies, which I took up about the same time, when I was about 5 years old, using my DM's 1930 Singer treadle and a small camera, given to me by a cousin, who had just purchased a new one.

On the way back, we spent the afternoon with the nephew, who lost everything last year, & family, to visit and see their re-built home. Did those volunteers ever do a great job! Besides adding 750 square feet to the size for 2 extra bedrooms and a bath, to accommodate the 3 little boys they have accepted to rear, the builders revamped the kitchen-dining and laundry room. All that is left to do is connect the water lines to the house and hot water heater, which hopefully, they can get done this week and get the phone service restored. then they can say good-bye to the small FEMA trailers, in which they have lived for the past several months. For a family of 8, first there was only one trailer, built for 1-2 people. Later, they were finally able to acquire another from FEMA, so their children, ages 22, 20 and 14 shared one with my nephew, his wife and the three boys, ages 7,5,4 in the other.

I really miss reading the group when I am away from home, as I will be again in July, when I go to SC for a couple weeks visit with my youngest DGD and her parents. Emily

Emily - It sounds like a great trip! Let us know how the pillows turn out. I keep thinking of projects using photos printed on fabric but haven't tried any yet. I hope your nephew and family are back in their home by now. They will feel like they've moved into a mansion after living in 2 small trailers!!!

The pillows are coming along, in fact the covers are done; and with the new printer I rec'd on my birthday, the pics should be easy to print. DS will do that when he gets a breather from his job traveling. I'll find a way to post pics, and describe how I sewed them. But everything is on hold now till I return from SC, when I will see youngest DGD, for the first time in almost 18 months. I leave the first and return the 14th, but this time I'm taking the computer with me for us to play games, so I think I will be around. Nephew and family have not gotten the water on in the house yet, too much work for the few licensed plumbers in the area. They live in Waveland/Bay St Louis, where the storm surge hit the hardest. Maybe this, his DW said today. Emily
