OT: California tourist information wanted

Several years ago, a friend arranged a holiday in California. I remember that we drove from SF, through/past Sacramento, and ended up at a resort on a lake. It wasn't Tahoe. It was quiet and family-oriented and you could hire sailboats, sailboards and canoes.

I've lost touch with the friend and I'd like to go back to the place or somewhere similar. Does it sound familiar to anyone? I'm planning a trip with DD this summer: we've got the shopping and the spa sorted and we need a place to kick back for a week or so.

I'm forwarding this to a friend in Sacramento - hopefully she'll know what you mean.

That sounds very much like Donner Lake.

Does this look at all like it?

I have no personal knowledge of this place. I had friends who had shared ownership in a house on Donner Lake, and it's that kind of place - quiet, family-oriented, lots of boating. It's not nearly so huge as Tahoe, so it feels more secure.

Yes, and if you are going to SF Intl Airport, let me know and I can try to meet you there just long enough to say hi, so I can put a face to the name I've known all these years.

Whoops, add Sacramento and Oakland (especially Oakland) to that list as well.
