I've changed to another group with the hope this works for more than one or two posts. I'm sorry to keep bothering everyone with this aggravations, but I'll only be able to solve the problem by trying to post over several days. Thank you all for putting up with me. I miss not being able to participate, praise and share. Juno
From what I was able to figure out last night, I think the problem is the computer and not the news service. Now I have to work out how to do a permanent fix. I have to get some tech help I think. I can work around it,but it's a bit of a pita. Juno
Perhaps the user settings in your newsgroup software ? ... is it your newsreader software that you've recently changed ? that begun the problems ? I use an old version of Forte Agent that I quite like. I believe that FreeAgent is still available - free & easy ! John T.
No John, it's not the settings. this is the third group I've used this week.It started out of the blue with eternal-september, switched to optimum then tera news. They all use port 119. Tera news also uses another, 443, port if your provider blocks usenet.I tried that one first and it didn't work at all. Just rejected the post. I went back to 119 and my message went out. Later that evening I tried to send another message on 119 and it never went out, but was in my sent box.I tried 443 again and was outright rejected. I went back to 119 immediately and the message went out to the group. that's when I realized what was happening but didn't know why and still don't. I found that when I go to settings change the port number to any number, click OK and then change back to
119,again click OK in settings my messages get posted. I don't know if it will work every time, but it's working now. what has really confused me it only has happened when I try to post to alt.sewing, not rct.sewing.
I don't recall that I've ever had to specify a port for news server .. I think I just use default or automatic (?) Good luck - but it doesn't seem like it is a computer machine problem - like you thought earlier. John T.
